doublers - help please

so, I'm going to try to make my own stay dry doublers. I went to Jo anns yesterday and bought fabric. I got micro fleece & 100% cotton flannel.

how many layers of flannel should I do? I have a lot of it (there is a really good sale going on).

micro fleece is good for the top right?

I'm going to finish the edges w/ fleece bodice tape b/c I don't have a serger. Do you think this will work?

I'm going to use a motherease doubler as a pattern.

Seems like that will work well. As far as how many layers, I would say that depends on your lo. If he/she is a heavy wetter or you want them for night time...you might want to do lots...maybe 8? (thats how many go in the mother bird diaper that I make). If the soakers are just to add a little more bulk to some already good diapers, you don't need as many. Then you can just put a layer of microfleece on the top (what will be on baby's skin). I don't bind because I have a serger, but I don't see why that wouldn't work.

One thing I have learned when making diapers, covers, etc... is to make 1 or 2 and use them for a week. Then make more of the same if you like them or modify them to work better for your lo. Nothing is worse than making 20 of something and then realizing that you should have made them thinner, thicker, bigger, smaller, etc... L(

When I went to Jo-ann's yesterday looking for micro-fleece they told me they didn't carry it. They have something called "no-pill" fleece, which isn't really the same stuff. I would make sure your getting what you really want before you stock up too much.

You can buy microfiber towels (8x absorbency) at auto-parts stores.

the fleece that I got was labeled microfleece. it was on a clearance rack, so maybe your joann's just isn't carrying it.
I made some staydry doublers w/ it and it seems to be doing the trick. I ended up using some preeme pf's that I found used as the absorbant layer.
