a veteran no-pooer thinking of quitting...HELP!!!!

we used to have a very strong water pressure in the shower, and rinsing my fine, shoulder-length hair was enough. i'd use baking soda/ vinegar only occasionally. now we moved. we have rainwater and a very weak shower. the baking soda/ vinegar left my hair both dry and greesy feeling. not cool. i'm ready to quit. or shave my hair. please don't suggest wearing a hat.

what do i do?? is there a way to nopoo successfuly on rain water with limited rinsing (meaning i can't stand in the shower for 40 min, like i did in the hotel we stayed)?

Have you tried the Oyin Naturals Grand Poo Bar? I just got mine, so I can't give a really hearty testimonial, but so far it's great!

Before you completely "quit" no-poo, maybe try tweaking it a bit. It might be the water's pH or hardness that's making the difference; it's not necessarily the water pressure.

You may also find that no-poo works if you alternate with a more traditional shampoo. I've also heard of people using conditioner only, no shampoo at all. Try using a different kind of vinegar, different concentrations of BS, etc.

i gave up the BS and ACV routine when i got pregnant because my hair suddenly turned to straw. i tried everything i could think of to fix what was wrong, but it just kept getting worse. so eventually i did stop and started using the Oyin products and my hair is really super happy.

i'm not saying you should quit too, but just saying i feel your pain. i loved no 'poo when it worked and my hair looked awesome, but i wasn't going to walk around looking like a scarecrow

i agree that it is very likely the hardness of the water/pH that is different. it may just take a little time for your hair to adjust. or you might need to tweak your recipe, or do a heavy oiling or something. even when i did no 'poo religiously, about every other month i washed my hair with Dr. Bronner's just to get my scalp really good and clean with something that lathers.

Come take a long shower at my house.

Have you tried washing it with Black African Soap? That is what I do, and it does a great job, no chemicals. My hair was just too icky on the no poo with BS and ACV.

Maybe you should try lo-poo. I tried no-pooing about 7 years ago and it was a disaster with my hair, but lo-poo works great. You basically use a sulfate-free soap/shampoo as needed (i.e. African black soap, a shampoo bar like Oyin's, shampoo like Jason's Natural, etc). I use one of these type things once a week and rinse/condition my hair the other days (I mostly use Giovanni line, which is natural/organic, for conditioner). This keeps my hair nice, soft and clean.

That sounds interesting. I might have to try it.
