stethoscope or fetoscope?

Does it really matter?
I think dd would love to hear the heartbeat. And I'm not opposed to checking during labor, if it is a long one. Mostly just want one so we can all hear the kidlet
What is the real difference? Does the fetoscope "isolate" sounds more? wouldn't that be a better choice for just about anything (chest colds, heartbeats, tummy noises)? Or is it more a "buyer-be-ware" with a fetoscope at amazon.com being more likely of shoddy quality than a similar stethoscope?

Honestly, I don't know the difference between a fetoscope and a stethoscope. But I did buy this fetoscope on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Mabis-MABIS-FE...3835351&sr=8-1 and I LOVE it! I have been listening to the heartbeat since week 18. Depending on the baby's position and how much belly fluff there is, I can almost always find the HB. Sometimes it is deafening. I highly recommend it!

from what I've learned, fetoscopes are preferred by midwives. although mine uses a stethoscope and hears just fine. I like my fetoscope

i'm looking into fetal stethoscope because its not that expensive ($15). But i've also considered renting a digital doppler during the month i am due ($45 per month).

I have a british-type Pinard Horn, which I hear FHT with well, while I don't always hear with my high quality stethoscope.
the only downside to using a horn is that you can't hear it yourself. (as the mother, I mean)

we have a stethoscope at home, and it's way harder to hear the babe's heartbeat with it than the fetoscope. the stethoscope is really bad for hearing all the creaking of the fingers and hands holding it, but i've never heard my creaky fingers when using the MW's fetoscope. (oh, and she said hers cost about $8.)
