Plz Help! I baked my Sourdough Starter!!!

Okay, mamas, this is how it went down: My sourdough starter (from Alaska!) wasn't doing much and then a very wise TF mama said: is your air conditioning on? Well it was, so I put them in the oven (two mason jars). They were doing great . . . I was just waiting to reach optimum bubbly-ness. Anyway, the oven cooled down, so I cut it on to 200 and then immediately turned it off. BUT this morning, it was like I had two little loaves of bread! They dried out or whatever.

So what do I do now??? Should I discard the 'bread' and just use the jar to start another??? Should I try to add water and reconstitue?

Any help would be so appreciated. It has been one thing after another with Sourdoughs lately and I just want to get back into a good breadmaking groove!

Perhaps next time just put them outside?

Depending on how dried out they got, there may not be enough bacteria to salvage. If it were me, I'd try adding water and reconstituting and seeing if it'll grow. If just the top is dried out, maybe scrape that off and feed the rest?

This is going to take some experimentation..

I'm sorry you're having a hard time with sourdough.
