Forgive me if this has been thoroughly discussed numerous times before, but there are a large number of posts to go through here.
Is there a point in pregnancy when it is no longer safe to go to a dentist? I'm currently in week 25 and plan to talk to my OB, but my next appointment with him is during week 28. Still got a while to go.
I just found out that we have complete dental coverage through my hubby's job, and I would like to use it. I know that at least for the initial visit they would want to do an exam and a cleaning. I would assume they would normally want x-rays, but alot of dentists (at least around here) don't want to do anything even remotely like that with a pregnant woman without a signed order from a physician.
I also know I have at least a couple of cavities (one caused by having an impacted tooth), and there's actually a hole in one of my upper teeth. Other than that, I don't have any pain. My teeth are still, overall, very strong, and the biggest problem I've noticed is a little bleeding when I brush which I've been told is completely normal.
Should I just wait until after the baby is born to go to the dentist? Would it be potentially detrimental even then since I'm planning on bf'ing? Is it best to just go now and see what the dentist and OB say about any possible treatments I may need in the future?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If nothing else, I want to know what to ask when I eventually talk to my OB and/or a dentist.
