Holy pits, batman! I stink!

Wow. I reek as of late. I stopped using my Dove deodorant, which has aluminum. I switched to Tom's of Maine. I started to get stinky. I switched to Trader Joe's. Still stinky. I switched to Alba, complete with Tea Tree Oil and Baking soda. Nope, I still stink. I don't know what is going on with me. I used to be able to get away without wearing deodorant and not stinking. This has happened in the last 3 months and I can't think of anything that's different. The only thing I'm doing differently is using tea tree oil on my skin (face, chest and back). I've also stopped using tons of conventional products. I'm really embarassed about it. Even DH made a comment, and he's usually afraid to make those kinds of comments to me because he doesn't want to hurt my feelings. At work, we tend to get VERY close to each other when restraining animals. Not a day goes by when I don't have a boob, a butt or an armpit in my face. I'm incredibly self concious now. Today, I applied my deodorant 4 times and I'm start to stink again. What is wrong with me? I'm VERY tempted to go back to Dove or Secret. :

Have you tried a rock salt deodorant stone? Works pretty well for me.

The only thing that works for me is the Thai salt crystals..... the liquid spray is more convenient IMHO than the rock form. I smell bad BO with conventional deoderant and this salt crystal stuff inhibits the growth of bacteria instead of covering it up.... so, no smell.

I was very skeptical of any natural deodorants and was almost afraid to even try since I thought I needed the antiperspirant, too. I tried BS and CO and got stinky pretty fast. I then went to spraying alcohol on my pits- works great! I did add a little clove and rosemary EOs this batch, but the plain old rubbing alcohol worked fine. I think I am even sweating less now, too. I usually only have to put it on after my AM shower and I am good all day

me too.

i use the liquid crystal by kiss my face. the actual stone didn't work for me. the other one i LOVE is benedetta. it's a grape seed alcohol and essential oils. it's fairly expensive but it lasts forever. i've had mine a year because i couldn't use it when pregnant (lavender scent made me sick) but it still kicks butt!

I am in love with Funk Butter by Oyin-it rocks, I can be all day chasing kids(I am a preschool teacher) and then chasing my own and I won't stink-at all. That is with the unscented. In a pinch if I am out of the magic FB I use the Crystal Deoderant roll-on, works okay but I have to re-apply at least once a day.

I second MeyersDVM, I started several weeks ago and have had only few times where BO started to occur and those were times when my regular deodorant had problems and overall I think I've improved.

How long have you been going with natural deoderants vs. Secret? I know the first week or so was rough-my body had to adjust. I'm naturally a VERY sweaty person, and usually quite stinky by the end of the day. I was using Secret Clinical-and still sweating/stinking. I made the switch to Jason's Tea Tree deoderant-I'm in awe. I do clean with alcohol & reapply as necessary-but usually only if I'm doing yardwork/gardening. I tried the crystal rock, and it didn't work quite as well. I work in a doctor's office, so there are many times when I'm leaning over someone to bandage something, doing EKG's, etc. I'm very self-concious (sp?) about it, but nobody has complained yet! Trust me, my coworker would tell me.

Also hormones play a lot with with body odor-any changes that way?

I love Funk Butter, but it causes a rash for me, but imho it is what has worked best for me. A second is the crystal - specifically the Thai crystal spray, if my pits are clean first.

I use baking soda with a little lavender EO mixed in, just rub it on my pits. However, I noticed this doesn't work AT ALL if I have just shaved my pits. I need about a cm of pit hair in order for this to work! I notice I stink much less with pit hair than without.

Wow... amazing how different everyone's experiences are. Must have to experiment. :

another vote for Funk Butter. it seriously rocks.

The unscented Funk Butter quickly gave me pits of fire. Some can use it. Many of us cannot.

Liquid deodorant stone works great. (The actual hard stone eventually caused painful pits for both my husband and me.) I used to use the spray, but like the roll-on better now.

I have read that many like a newer product called Pit Putty. I have not used it, but the reports are good.

Hope you find a great solution soon!

I the Thai Crystal deodorant spray. Funk Butter worked well for a while, but the baking soda in it dried out my pits so much, they were raw and peeling. And the actual Thai Crystal stone ended up collecting bacteria and making me stinky. But the crystal mist actually works amazingly well.

I 2nd the alcohol! I've used it as my only deodorant for years and it works wonders. I spritz in the morning after my shower and i"m stink free all day. It's even 111 degrees here today and my pits are fine despite running around like a crazy person today - in and out of the car 100 times.

I do keep a small spritz bottle with me just in case but, I rarely need it.

You can also use commercial body sprays as deodorant as they are mainly alcohol based.

But, like the PP said, there is a detox period so if you just switched to natural deodorants, it may take a while to detox off the commercial stuff during which time you may be super stinky. Just spritz your pits with alcohol when you're stinky.

Do you spritz straight alcohol or diluted?

Another stinky mama here. I have tried all of the suggestions to no avail Unfortunately I switched back to nasty regular deo. I HATE using it but it's the only thing that works, well, they work for a little while and they even stop working for me.

I have even tried taking chlorophyll hoping that would help but it didn't.

I feel your pain! I've struggled with stinky pits too. I have a couple suggestions that may or may not help, hopefully you haven't already tried them!

--Take a zinc supplement. I take 50mg/day and it seemed to help a lot. It takes a week or two to kick in.
--Wash all your shirts with 1/4 cup bleach. I'm not a bleacher generally, but the bacteria can harbor in the pits of your shirts and make you stinky even if your armpits were clean and stink-free to begin with. I've only done it once so far and it didn't fade my dark shirts at all.
--I'm still fiddling around trying to find my ideal deodorant. Right now I'm really liking my homemade conconction of 2 tsbsp corn starch, 1 tbsp baking soda(or less or none if you're sensitive to it), 3 tbsp coconut oil, lavender EO and lemongrass EO. I mixed it together with a fork and put it in a container with a lid. It works well for me all day; before I go to bed at night I put a little more on so I don't stink in the morning.
--Sometimes if I need a little refreshing or don't feel like taking a shower I wipe my pits with witch hazel.

HTH. I think I'm forgetting something else, but I'm having a funny conversation with my 2yo right now and my mind is blanking!

Thanks, I'll look into the zinc but I'll have to see how much I should take since I'm pregnant.
We don't have bleach but I do the sniff test on my shirts often and if they smell I don't wear them.
I did make some coconut oil and baking soda deo that helped in the beginning but then didn't work any more, maybe I'll add the cornstarch and EO's.
I have done the witch hazel but it didn't help.
