p.s.
I have been seriously considering not shaving anymore...for a variety of reasons, but one of them being that some people who I have talked to about it have said that you dont stink AT ALL when you stop shaving....that you do sweat, but the stink is a min? for those non shavers out there...what do you think?

I had not thought of it in that way, but I have not shaved my underarms for more than 20 years, and I have not had any real problem with BO since then either. Before that I fought constantly to avoid smelling somewhat 'ripe.' You may well be right.

p.s. Most days I don't need any deodorant. Days where I have social stress are the only days I risk a bad smell, so I use roll-on liquid crystal deodorant or, lately, I have been using homemade colloidal silver spray, both with perfect results.

I'm not sure about the not shaving=not stinking thing. I tend not to stink much but I notice if I do it is lots worse when I let my hair get long.

I agree. Long pits = sticky pits for me! I do not shave that often unless I have to go swimming in public and for dh. When he was gone for 2 months for work I let those bad girls grow!!! the kids loved it...fun to pull them out!

As for not stinking...dh and I use the Crystal. But I had friends who swear it doesn't work. You MUST detox off the hard stuff (ie:dove, secret) first! No nothing on for about 2 weeks. Yes you will stink..but it will be worth it. Wash pits w/ baking soda during these two weeks. Dab some on during the day to help control odor (you can also do this as a method, but for me it's an apply all day thing, not convient at times).

After two weeks are up and your pits are clean as a whistle you may put on the Crystal only after you shower. It needs water to work (hop out put it on, let pits air dry) You can only apply the Crystal when your pits are CLEAN!! Big reminder here...if they somehow stink, don't put it on. It won't work, and then you'll make the crystal stink! dh

So...once you get that method down, you're golden! It will work all day. I shower at night put it on..good all day until the next night. You won't smell, but you won't smell like fragrant flowers either.

FIL said people who don't use deodarant are hippies and stink. I asked him if dh and I stink, he said, no. I told him we didn't use any, he was shocked and felt like an a$$!

I normally just use alcohol sprayed in my pits a couple of times every day. When I'm working I use either the Crystal spray or Funk Butter, since I need a longer-lasting stink shield when I'm working. Seriously, the alcohol works great, I just have to re-apply a couple of times in a day, which I might forget to do/not have time to do while working, and nobody likes a stinky nurse!

I'm not a nurse, but a Medical Asst. in an office. So I'm leaning over people in some awkward positions sometimes! When I'm home, I don't care, but for work I do. I also sneak into the bathroom during the day & apply alcohol if necessary.

Colloidal Silver

Recently I have been using colloidal silver in a spray bottle as deodorant. It works perfectly!

I know, some don't like the idea of colloidal silver. I already know all the arguments. But if you are open to, or perhaps already using colloidal silver for other purposes, you might like to try it as deodorant. The stuff I use is cheapie colloidal silver that I made myself. Frankly I thought it might not be enough, but I'm happy to say that I was wrong. It works great! :

I spritz with full strength witchhazel (with a little tea tree oil) and let it dry before I apply my natural deodorant and it works best for me.

I'm afraid of that stuff ever since I saw the Oprah show where this guy turned blue from using too much(of course he was drinking it every day). He's permanently blue. Here's a picture of the man: http://www.oprah.com/health/oz/slide..._350_102.jhtml. Yikes!

I use Terressentials deodorant. It's a wet roll-on deodorant. I'm not fond of wet roll-ons but, recently found a little trick to make it dry faster. On my hair dryer I have a "cold shot" button that will blast cool air out. So I just use that for my armpits. What's so funny is I don't even use my hairdryer for my hair. I guess I should start calling it my armpit dryer.

I don't have a hair dryer, so I just stand in front of a fan. : (<-- Me frantically waving my arms in front of an oscillating fan)

I've been using alcohol for about 5 days now and absolutely adore it. If I've just shaved it stings for about 2 seconds, then not at all. I don't stink at all. I would eventually stink, even with my beloved Dove, but now, nothing. I still sweat (though it doesn't seem as much) but no odor! DH is getting so tired of hearing me say "I don't stink!"
FWIW I have been using victoria secret body spray because I have 3 unused bottles of it and the first ingredient is alcohol, then water. once these are gone, I will probably used just alcohol and water. anyone know what proportions I should dilute in?

After reading all the raves here, I've started using the alcohol spritz for the past week or so and it works better than anything I've ever tried!

2nd best for me was the baking soda / corn starch / coconut oil / EO combination. But even with that I would smell a little sour by the end of the day and I would have to reapply at night so I wouldn't stink really bad by morning. Also, the stink would get in my shirts. Even if they smelled fine freshly washed, the stink would sort of get reactivated during the day.

But now all I have to do is spritz in the morning and I'm good for 24+ hours! And in the middle of the hot summer too! This is really amazing to me, cuz I'm a stinky gal. Regular products like Secret etc. for some reason make me stink and sweat even worse.

BTW, I'm using the Dove body spritzer. Like a pp said, once it's empty I'll reuse the bottle with my own alcohol combo.

Thanks for the tip!

If you like the smell of it (I have some Love Spell spray and White Tea & Ginger Bath and Body Works spray), you can dilute the body spray...half spray, half straight-up alcohol...it works awesome and doesn't take away from the scent at all.

I tried the rubbing alcohol and it works great! But here's a question ... does anyone know how "green" it is? Is it safe to put on your skin? ("Safe" in the sense that I don't consider traditional deodorants / antiperspirants to be "safe," even though 99% of people do.)

I've also been searching for a natural deodorant - it's been frustrating and expensive, too!

I tried the Kiss My Face Liquid Crystal and I thought that the formula itself reeked of fermented fruits, returned it... it may have been a bad batch. I've tried the Crystal brand roll on - it works for about half a day, then it continues to work if I wash my pits (with soap), dry them out and reapply the deodorant. Another I've tried is Nature's Gate (I love the smell of the Asian Pear and Red Tea one) but it is really weak - just a couple of hours of use and I'm stinky again. Oh, and the vegetable glycerin base is painful because of the drag effect on my sensitive underarm skin. I got a travel size of the Alba Clear Enzyme deodorant stick (tea tree) and it seems to work fine, but ditto on the drag effect on my underarm skin due to vegetable glycerin base.

Just got my Oyin Funk Butter in the mail today and I'm so excited!!!!! I bought one in fragrance free and the other in black cedar fig scent. So far I still smell sweet and I'm hoping that I've found the answer , but I haven't gone to yoga class or been out in the sun for hours yet.

Sarah Joy- if you have sensitive pits, the funk butter might become irritating. I use terressentials roll on first, then when I put on the funk butter, it dissolves into the wetness and there is no abrasiveness this way. The combo works great for me.

Loving Oyin's funk butter - it works all day, every day, and even into a second day without showering! Doesn't matter if I sweat a lot or am out in the sun. It's absolutely amazing stuff! I've decided to use the unscented through pregnancy. When I feel my pits getting a little dry or irritated I just put some lotion on with the funk butter.

Since I'm so sensitive to smells and hate the Speed Stick smell DP had, I've asked (demanded may be more accurate) that he use the black cedar fig funk butter. It works for him if he puts it on immediately (the pea-sized ball they recommend on the tin) after showering. Oh, and he can't go into the second day without showering like I can... but it works so much better than mass produced commercial deodorants for him.
