curly purly soakers - help me please!

I've started knitting my soaker using the curly purly pattern and am still doing the ribbing. I'm doing the size small pattern and so far it looks really small. I'm afraid I might knit this beautiful soaker too small. How do I figure out if it's going to be the right size for my dd? I did a gauge swatch and my knitting matched the gauge required.

The 1x1 portion will look really small. That's what makes the waistband stay up without drawstrings.

If you're worried it won't fit, put it on waste yarn once you have an inch or so, and see how far it will stretch.

I think that everytime I do one. Trust me...it stretches. If it helps a small done with 5's, 6's, and 8's fits my 17 lber (10 months).

Yes, I agree, the waistband really stretches out. I wouldn't worry at all, esp. if your gauge matches.

Well I got gutsy and pulled the needles out. Even with yarn in their place I still feel like I'm doing a bad thing LOL. Anyway, it was a great thing to do. I didn't bother to see how far the ribbing would stretch because my cast on only stretched to 16" and that is the size of my LO's waist. I think I'll go ahead and knit the medium. I think I'll cast on with bigger needles though.

Yeah, you def. need to do a very stretchy cast-on with this pattern.

Do you think that a regular long tail cast on is stretchy enough (with bigger needles) or is there a better one?

I usually do long tail with the biggest of the three sizes, at it works fine. The twisted german and channel island cast ons work also.
