Favorite non-cheesy, non-traditional love songs for wedding

DP and I are just doing a whole bunch of compilation CDs for our reception. We've got about 3 hours of music/53 songs so far. We need another hour or so worth. We've got everything from jazz to reggae to bluegrass to blues. I'm running out of ideas though. The personal music collection is comprised largely of hip-hop and well, just wouldn't really fit the occassion. We both hate pop and country. Any suggestions?

Our song was Our House by Crosby Stills Nash and Young. Definitely not traditional but I'm not sure if it's cheesy, lol.

In My Life by The Beatles is a good one, too...

By Your Side by Sade:
Quote:
you think i'd leave your side baby
you know me better than that
you think i'd leave you down when you're down on your knees
i wouldn't do that
i'll tell you you're right when you want
and if only you could see into me
ha ah ah ah ah ah

oh when you're cold
i'll be there
hold you tight to me

when you're on the outside baby and you can`t get in
i will show you you're so much better than you know
when you're lost and you're alone and you cant get back again
i will find you darling and i will bring you home

and if you want to cry
i am here to dry your eyes
and in no time
you'll be fine
...
This was the first dance at my friend's wedding and I still get teary when I hear it. The lyrics look a little sad, but it's a beautiful song.

The other songs from her wedding that were great (and took us back to our highschool days)
were
Push It by Salt n' Pepa
It Takes Two (To make a thing go right) by Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock
(ok, neither of those are love songs, but It Takes 2 could be a love song, and they are both fun dance songs.)

You're Still Standing There - Steve Earle and Lucinda Williams
Talk to Me - Oasis
I'm The Man Who Loves You - Wilco
Always On My Mind - Phantom Planet
Indoor Fireworks - Elvis Costello
The Wedding Song - Bob Dylan
Sleepwalk - Ben Lee

I'm a huge Nat King Cole fan also. How about "Darling Je Vous Aime Beaucoup"
Cole Porter song: Let's Do it, Let's fall in love. It's De-Lovely, I get a kick out of you.

I love the oldies: 30s, 40s. Bing Crosby is another fav.

You may these all cheesy, but I'm kinda cheesy so that's ok

Origin of Love from Hedwig & the Angry Inch was our first dance at our wedding.

I Believe in a Thing Called Love by The Darkness (or Dorkness if you prefer )was the 2nd, hehe. It's such a silly fun song!

Reel Big Fish's version of Take on Me, love it! It's ska-riffic!

The Promise by When in Rome (cheese at its finest!)

Just Like Heaven - The Cure (Not a "happy" ending, but the Cure does it in such an upbeat way )

Your Song - Elton John

Such Great Heights - either The Postal Service or Iron & Wine's cover (that's our song)

I Never - Rilo Kiley

Wanted to say that we also had both of those Nick Drake songs, and Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

I would have also have some Jack Johnson on there if I were doing it over again. I would have Banana Pancakes on there, I love that song!

Naked as We Came is a great one, too!

I realize on my computer I have a very limited # of anything love song related, and the large collection is on dh's computer.

I'm a fan of cheesy--The Lion King, Moulin Rouge!, Andrew Lloyd-Webber, you name it. I do have some non-cheesy love songs, but they're all tragic and doomy.

'Such Great Heights' is lovely though, as is the Somewhere Over the Rainbow version by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.

these are some of the songs on my "husband" playlist on our ipods :

like you'll never see me again- alicia keys
I belong to you-lenny kravitz
lay your hands on me-beth hart
I'm yours-jason mraz

I have a ton more but they are all cheesy

if i could have another wedding i'd learn to waltz and dance to At Last by Etta James. I watched skaters dance to it and have been in love with the song ever since.
We were introduced to At Last! We'd been together for 9 years by the time we got married.

What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong - was our 1st dance song. Still makes me cry every time I hear it!

The first song that popped into my head was Forever by Ben Harper. And I looooove Such Great Heights (I've only heard the Iron&Wine version).

Some of these may be too pop (or cheesy) for you, but I like them

I'll Back You Up - Dave Matthews
The Way I Am - Ingrid Michaelson
When I'm 64 - The Beatles
Angel - Jack Johnson
Gotta Have You - The Weepies
Time After Time - Eva Cassidy

Me & DH's songs...
Radiohead "True Love Waits"... there is an actual album version of it now, but when we got married in 2002 we used a bootleg It is our alltime #1 song... very romantic

Stone Temple Pilots "Beg for You" our #2 song.

Radiohead "All I Need" Sexy and clubby

Fleetwood Mac "Big Love" the live version from the Dance... really sexy and intense.

The B Good Tanyas "Don't You Fall" from Blue Horse... cute, pretty bluegrass waltz

And we had the John Lennon version of "Grow Old Along With Me" as our wedding dance. Nothing that John Lennon sings can be chessy

Oh! And "For the Longest Time" by Billy Joel... maybe too familiar, but I it.

I am loving these songs! My DH made me a wonderful CD of (mostly) non-cheesy love songs a couple of years back, and I've wanted to return the favor. Lots of ideas here!

Here are some recommendations that come to mind... I wouldn't call any of these cheesy, but, of course, your mileage may vary:
"Such Great Heights" (which, I know, has already been mentioned)
"Soup on a Stick" by Brak (very silly song)
"Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol
"Slide" by The Goo Goo Dolls (or "Iris")
"Kingdom Come" by Coldplay
"Yellow" by Coldplay
"Dolphins Cry" by Live
"Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica
"Desperately Wanting" by Better than Ezra
"Extra Ordinary" by Better than Ezra
"All Over You" by Live
"Crystal Baller" by Third Eye Blind (profanity included... but just once!)
"Still Remains" by Stone Temple Pilots (which I think is the "Beg for You" mentioned by a PP?)
"Blood Red Summer" by Coheed and Cambria
"Sunday Morning" by Maroon 5
"Beautiful" by Smashing Pumpkins
"All I Want is You" by Barry Louis Polisar
"Piazza, New York Catcher" by Belle and Sebastian
...maybe if I dig out my CD case I can come up with more. Hope something is helpful!

In the Colors - Ben Harper
I'm Yours - Jason Mraz
Beautiful - G. Love & Special Sauce
Last Request - Paolo Nutini
Two of Us - The Beatles

Pretty much anything by Pink Martini, but I highly recommend Amado Mio.

I'm sure I could come up with a lot more, except our computer crashed and we've only started to rebuild our iTunes collection.
