I found this table an interesting read:

Some things crack me up like we had popcorn before the chicken was domesticated. Maybe the wild chickens just wanted some popcorn?

As the time goes closer to the present, you see more and more of 'junk food' types of stuff. I'm still surprised at how old some of it is. Bagels are a 17th century (!) invention.

oh i love that site. i found it years ago, when i was first looking for info on gluten free stuff. my favourite part is the "bread, beer and yeast" section. i find this type of thing to be utterly fascinating!
