Well, as you all know, I was super nervous about having another
c section. The epidural scares me to death. And I went to the hospital
in a very anxious/nervous state. We got there at 5:30am...scheduled
for 7:30am.
My inlaws were there and my mom and step dad and then my aunt and
cousin came up as well. The first nurse came in the room and said
they received the fax from my OB with my birth plan. I refused everything.
Not a problem. They had me sign some refusal forms and not another
word was said.....told ya this hospital was really good.
So the anesthesiologist comes in and talks with me. The same guy
from last year. I told him the concerns with the epidural and told
him I didn't think I could do it this time. I told him to put me under.
He said if that's what I wanted, then that's what he would do. But
then he told me of the complications, etc. We talked it over and
he was very re-assuring. He said he'd start off with a low dose
and only go for more if I was having problems. So I said ok, go ahead
with the epidural. So we did it and everything went numb, of course.
And we got down to the OR. The epidural dose was fine - I couldn't feel anything. So the doctor started. And it was like only ten minutes and I heard the baby screaming. They handed her to my husband and then to me. I immediately noticed her full head of brown hair. Nate had really fine and thin blonde hair. So I was shocked she had so much and how dark it was. She looks like Nate's twin in the face. They look exactly alike. So my husband goes behind the curtain with the nurses and Phoenix gets weighed and measured. 8.9 pounds and 21.5 inches. She was bigger than Nate. Big baby.
Then my husband and the baby go up to the room as I get my stomach muscles stitched back together and everything else stitched up. I wasn't as drugged up and groggy as last time. It was so much better this time. So we all went to the room to meet the new little girl in my life. I waited about two hours to breastfeed because I still was a little shaky. I had to have help with it and the nurses were great. I had my own personal nurse for the rest of the day. The OB came back to check on me and so did the anesthesiologist. He was great.
We were in the hospital for four days. I got a massage from their massage therapist while I was there. That helped with the swelling in my legs. And we had a room service menu to order from whenever we wanted food. It was good food too. Overall it was a pretty good experience. Breastfeeding wasn't going great at first, but now she's doing great. And we're home babymooning. Nate loves his little sister. He's been holding her hand and stroking her hair. It is soooooo cute.
I will definitely post some pictures later. I need to set up a flickr account.
