What kind of mattress for your kids?

I was just wondering what kind of mattress MDC moms have bought or are planning to buy for their kids. I was thinking of a wool mattress for my toddler and then I thought it is just too expensive for a kid. I am considering a organic cotton futon. Would you buy an organic cotton futon for your kid? Cotton futons can harbor dustmites and compact very hard over time though....

We just got DD a Savvy Rest organic mattress (latex). I'm very happy with it and their customer service is great! It'll last her till she moves out or goes to college.

I'll post the link cause there seems to be alot of companies with names almost the same:

I was overwhelmed by choices too. I finally chose a mattress made in my home town. Maybe it has evil chemicals but at least it didn't take too much gas to get it to me.

We are getting a wool one. It's cheaper than latex and I figure more supportive than the futon. I figure he'll be sleeping on it for years. There's no way I'll let him jump on it that's for sure. Maybe then it will last until he goes to college! My dh thinks I'm crazy. I have unfortunately or fortunately, depending on which way you look at it, learned way too much about what goes into a conventional mattress to buy one for my little boy.

I've been wondering about this too.

We are needing to change the twins from their toddler beds to regular full size beds. So I need 2 mattresses. I'd really rather not spend a fortune, but more important than that, I don't want them sleeping on a mattress full of poisons, toxins, and chemicals.

All that to say, keep the suggestions coming. :

I just bought my son a mattress at IKEA. The salesperson said that the flame retardant in their mattresses is natural? I'm not sure I bought the line, but I did get the mattress we liked best.

I have heard great things about IKEA mattresses too. I have been told that since they are a European their mattresses are made to their standards which are apparently better than those in the US. The one we were looking at was the Sultan I believe.

an inexpensive organic one - there are twin ones out there that are latex for about $70o or so. Not inexpensive compared to conventional tho.

Or another great option IMO is the latex mattress toppers which are only about $300 and would be just great for years - til maybe teen years or even beyond if they are used to it. Some kids get them for college to use as a mattress I've been told, so I guess they could be fine for forever.

Def organic tho!
