November DDC Kitchen Table - Page 3

Hi mamas, just popping in for a quick hello in my last few minutes of quiet around here (AKA naptime is almost over!) Sorry to hear so many of you are sick, no fun! Hope you all feel better soon. We had a GREAT weekend - my LLL conference was awesome, and it was held at a beautiful resort so we made it a nice little quick family getaway and DH and the kids had lots of fun (although it did hit 120 degrees in Phoenix! That's even hotter than here in Tucson - we're typically about 10 degrees cooler at least.)

So today we just did some grocery shopping and we also ordered DS's birthday cake for Wednesday. I cannot believe he's turning 2 already - I feel like I just gave birth to him last week! (Although that was my only abnormal/traumatic birth situation, so that's why it probably stands out to me more.) Anyway, I better get on this enormous laundry pile I'm trying to ignore before all the clothes from our trip get mildewy from the wet swimsuits

Counting the minutes until our u/s on Thursday!!

Man, I really wanted to see Jack Johnson live. My son got me turned on to him because he loves the songs in Curious George!

Anyone else's back aching? Mine is just awful after any long walks. I'm going in for a massage on Friday to see if that helps.

Mine has but Ive been doing a lot of cleaning/lifting..

So, anyone got anything for the baby yet? I just talked to a mom down the street whos due in the end of December and she has gotten a lot for the baby already.. I was really planning on waiting until around 30-34 weeks before buying anything thats going to be shipped and after we move for anything that we are getting here thats big (other than my glider which Im loving). I don't like having things sit around for long periods of time..

Oh anyone not told all their families yet about the baby? I haven't told my side yet maybe I should go do that one of these days.

You just got me really nervous. We haven't told SFIL and he might freak when he finds out. He is supposed to come for a visit soon and I am obviously showing so I can't hide it anymore. After the last baby he asked DH when his apt was for his V. MIL has know since we found out, but she has chosen not to tell her DH because she 'didn't think he was ready to hear it yet.' Yikes! And btw, we live in a house they own. OK, I am not going to stress about this right now. We'll just have to see how he reacts and go from there.

My quesadia (ok, I can't spell this and it is really bugging me) was very yummy by the way. Topped with avocado.

Bellies up to the table with a "sensitively" sleeping toddler on chest and a big bottle of Smart Water. As long as I don't move DD she's fine. I'm so hungry it's not even funny.

Just got back from visiting a friend due in Feb...she's had some spotting this weekend and a US yesterday. So far, so good, but it's wait and see. We just tried to keep her mind off of stuff and wear her DS out...oh and make her REST! I convinced her to put the US pic up somewhere and to look at it when she starts to worry... it always helps me to see that moment in time where things indeed are just fine.

I broke down yesterday and bought something for the new baby. The Carter's outlet near us had some onesies on clearance and I bought 3 in the 6 month size. DD only wore 0-3 for 3 weeks... and I don't anticipate things being different.

I'm just anxious to start buy my stuff to flesh out my newborn fluff stash. I love cloth diapers!!!! Anyone else starting/replenishing a CD stash?

I have a good stash of prefolds and bummis. But, I don't like my Bummis very much. They don't have gathers around the legs. My friend has a fabulous stash of fitted diapers that I am going to borrow. I can't wait!

On another note...I would love a BEER!! An IPA, from a local brewpub. VT has so many great breweries. I have had sips here and there, but would love to just have one.

That sucks! Hopefully he is more supportive than you would think. You would be suprised, some people just need it to happen to dig deep down and find the support.

When I told my father about being pregnant with DD I heard him yell for an hour about why would I do something so stupid.. Im just going to lose that one too.. Im wasting my life.. Im wasting my education. He sat by and "let" me join the Marine Corps even though it was a waste and now this.. What am I going to do when DH dumps me.. Im going to get fat and not lose the baby weight so Ill never be able to be in a relationship etc... etc...

My brother keeps telling me that Im wasting my life.. My Grandma tells me its "impossible" to have more than one child now a days because of how expensive it is.. my grandfather refuses to admit Im even married and keeps telling me Im living in sin because Im not married. I could go on but you get the idea with my family how it is.. After I miscarried in January my father told me to have DH get a V cause I already had "like four children" (we have lost three). I don't have a loving a supportive family.

Maybe I should avoid the heartache and not tell them until the baby comes? I live in a different country from them after all.

Ahhh,Nice to be back at the table.I'm bringing a popsicle,I've got more-help yourselves.
So, The class was ok on Sunday,I wish I could have involved the younger kids better though...It was NONSTOP for 2 hours! And my 2 girls kept comming up front and asking me questions...The triple bday party was fun, and we did get a kitten! All white, 7 weeks old, sweet male.We named him Blossom but now it's Snowball,we'll see if it sticks. He is living in the backyard in a huge kennel for now, cos I am allergic, he's only in it at night though, cos w/ 4 kids,he's a busy kitty! When it gets to 95-100+ this weekend we'll bring him in the laundry room so he won't be too hot.No shade is cool enough over 95, and that's without fur!

Oh, I wanted to say, for mama's with colds,I make honey and vinegar-1 glass hot water,2-3 TBS honey(agave might work too)and 1tsp. apple cider vinegar.
You can cool it if you like, but hot like tea is soothing to the head-cold.Drink as often as you can, and the cold will leave super quick-24-48 hours.

Besides a few cutsie onsies, a handmade noah's ark with anatomically correct animals (LOVE IT), and the complete Grimms Brothers Fairy Tales and Hans Christen Anderson Fairy Tales I have nothing. I have a lot of people bugging me 'bout my registry though, so I'm workingon that.

I hope it all goes well. Not everyone appreciates the "full quiver" I know my parents faced a lot of opposition, and even I as the eldest felt the disapproval of other family members. Just know you have a lot of support here!

PS- quesadilla, the 'll' in Spanish is pronouced like an English 'y'.

That is so insensitive, I can't believe that! I am for you! Children are a blessing, end of story. :

I have been thinking about this alot. There is some good information about building a stash on greenmountaindiapers.com I have decided on the economy route. 2-3 doz prefolds in each size, and 4-6 Thirsties covers in each size. If you haven't been to the diapering forums on MDC they are also great for newborn stash ideas.
Okimom - I did exactly what Nerdymom was talking about on the Green Mtn. Diaper website for the economy route. I think her prefolds are wonderful. They've really held up and even our premium regular size, while showing some wear are certainly up to the challenge of the new baby.

With DD we got 3 doz infant CPF and 4 each newborn and small covers. We got Bummis Super Whisper Wraps, but I'm picking up some Thirsties this go. Personally I would have gotten a few more covers as it took a while for my Snappi technique to catch on.

Later we bought more covers and the premium CPF (blue edge that she no longer sells...but the new ones are WONDERFUL and the cut is better). I also sprung for 6 Fuzzi Bunz in size medium. We found they are convenient for going out, but totally optional and a bit pricey.

I ended up picking up my wipes at the Kissaluvs outlet. They are unbleached terry cloth cotton in wash cloth size. They work well for us.

Nicki's Diapers also offers from shipping on covers... always a plus in my book.

Hope that helps...I'm a cloth diaper junky

MMMM, I'm eating watermelon and it's good!

I lost my cell phone today. Where's that stupider thread....

Going to Ikea on Thursday to pick up a mattress for my son for his big boy bed and to peep out the dressers to put in the baby's room. I always pack a ton of snacks, so I'm looking forward to a good snacky trip to the grocery store tomorrow!

I need to go through my stash. I am placing an order through the cloth diaper co-op going on right now.

Wow. Just stop talking to them completely?

I had just prefolds and covers for the newborn/small size last time, until an MDC mama sent me some KL0s she had picked up for free. So, yeah, this time, I bought more KL0s, some small and newborn size sugarplumbaby fitteds, and then kept some of my prefolds. An LJ friend who *just* had her baby a couple of days ago promised me a couple of her small fitteds (including an adorable, adorable London print) so I'll have those. My covers from last time are Bummis and Proraps but I am thinking I'll pick up some Thirsties to round out my stash... last time I had six newborn/small covers and continually felt like I didn't have enough.

I'm more happy with my bigger stash... I have several one-size dipes that won't really fit a newborn but will after 2 months or so, plus some med. and large FuzziBunz for nighttime. I just need new inserts (okay, want, I guess!) and probably a few more fitteds.

Thanks everyone for the family support. They are really a work of art but they are my family. In the end I love them.. It is amusing though when my Dad asked my DH how many children we wanted and he said 6-10. We LOVE children, we believe they are Heavenly Father's greatest blessing to us. To me being a mother is a calling and a sacred responsibility not just something I do for now. My husband feels the same way I do, we want to have a large family so either my Dad gets use to the idea or can kiss it.

I was thinking of doing prefolds/covers at home since thats what I prefer with DD. I love my prefolds because when she grows a little I don't have to go buy new ones. But DH won't use prefolds so I was thinking of doing:
2 dz prefolds
6-8 fitteds
6-8 covers
8-10 All in ones (for nighttime/when DH is home with the baby and Im cooking or whatever)

Do you think that would be enough? Should I get more and if so what? I have my own washer/dryer and I can't stand to let diapers sit for more than a day because the smell makes me throw up (literally, even when Im not pregnant). My Dh is great at diaper laundry and will throw things in when he gets up for work.

AGH, i am beyond stressed. I almost just want to go to bed right now. My comp won't play a video. there is something wrong, so i tried to get Dh (comp guy) to help me fix it. he will not listen too me so we get in a fight. I try to appoligize and he gets mad again.

this on top of having my last two homework assignments rejected and they have to be re-done. it always stresses me out, because i put quality time into them and they S*** all over it. The graders for this course are very unfair and i am sick of it. Well at least i am almost done with this one and the Nazi graders. only 1 more task and 2 revisions. but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if the last one come back for revisions either. plus i am over due for having this class finished AGGGGGGGGGGGH

my house is a mess, and i have my moms group coming over and i am tired and dizzy so i don't really want to clean it up. /rant
okay it feels better to get all of that out. thanks for listening

my dipe stash- 3 doz infant prefolds. about 6 newborn covers, and 8 smalls, 6-7 mediums. some premium prefolds. i need to sort them because with DD they started shredding apart in the wash. So i need to figure out what i need. (i have been using disposables since we moved in sept because of this issue, and the lack of washing machine access during move, then it was easier to continue) I think i might want so pockets or AIOs for this baby though.

and i think the last day in dipes for DD is going to be Fri. we are potty learning DD. will update on that one. She shows so many signs of readiness. takes off dipe, undresses, likes to sit on potty (when i give her tissue to "wipe") goes a long while dry, and wakes dry as well. I just hope she will actually go in the toilet. wish luck.

OkiMom- (hugs)
and

Emma Woodhouse- quesadilla
and

jenniferadurham- it is okay Dec and Nov are close anyways
post #57 of 1796
Selena FWIW we tested DD one day by letting her run without bottoms/diaper for a while. We took her to the bathroom with us and she went in her potty on her own accord. It was hit and miss at first but she's starting to tell us in public more too and is showing interest in trainers/underware.

Granted you have to be willing to clean up accidents... and that may not be your cup of tea right now.

Looks like Ill be getting a big baby item earlier than expected. Someone is selling this bouncer http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_i=507846 for 15.00 on the local classifieds. Its the one my DH really wanted to get but I said was WAY to expensive. It will be a nice suprise for him when he gets home that he actually has something he wanted for the baby. (usually we get whatever I want to get )

Ooh watermelon sounds nice...

Selena_ski - that is exactly why I'm so happy to be done with school. for now.

All the experienced CD'ers - anyone with big babies out there? I'm thinking about not even fooling with CD for the short time that my LO will be in the newborn diaper sizes. All the kids in both my and DH's fam have been 9+ lbs, and so newborn sizes seem kind of pointless for us.

See, now I have a question. Obviously you have more experience and know that a bouncer like this is something that you want and will use. I'm just not sure how useful I will find it. I'm hesitant to register for something that I may never use or want. What do you like about it and when do you most often use it? Thanks.

Can't keep up with all the gender announcements. good grief there are a lot of us!

In other news...anyone else have a linea nigra? I am so very naturally pale and as a hardcore nerd, prefer things that keep me that way. Lol. YET, pale as I am, I have a very definite line intersecting my tummy. It doesn't photograph well (my skin refracts the light) but it seems to stand out more after I get out of the shower. DH gets a big kick out of it.
