Pants for a 4 year old.

Ds would like some funky pants, but most directions I find are for babies. Any toddler/child pants?

You can make pants for any size kid out of the longies patterns. DD wears pants knit from the sheepy pants pattern. Here is a pattern I have been drooling over http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring08/PATTjuju.html. I think if you picked the right yarn it wouldn't look girly.

I also like these http://www.knitty.com/issuesummer05/PATTcargo.html

Check out the studio lounger pants in Boho Baby Knits. http://www.knitpicks.com/boho%20baby...s_BD30970.html

The LTK pattern works great for older kids too, you'll need to cast on a few extra stitches (just check your guage then you should be able to figure out how many stitches you need for the waist) and then just do it without the short rows for a flat/non-diapered butt and just add more length (let your dc try it on as you're working if you're not sure...)

Any of the patterns that you can customize would work. I really love the Sheepy Pants pattern, and Perfection Pants are great, too.

I know I can adjust them, I'm just not sure I'll do it correctly!! I want directions for a size 5 ! I think I'm an "advanced beginner."

I did a pair of Picky Pants for haydee's lad a few years ago, when he was going on 4- IME, my kids waist measurements don't change that much so you'd mostly be adding length. I'm assuming he's out of nappies so you won't have short row placement to worry about either.

Do you crochet? Here's a free pattern online for a size 4 pair of pants. You'd probably want to leave off the ruffle though.

I've been meaning to try it out but haven't yet!

Both the patterns I mentioned really walk you through how to figure it out, and I think both are really good for beginners, too, because they go into tons of detail, including pictures. For the Sheepy Pants, you only need to measure your dd's waist and inseam, and multiply by the gauge of the yarn you want to use. You can do it!!!

I agree, it's really easy to to adjust for any size or gauge with most longies and shorties patterns.

Ok! I'll try it! I'm taking a knitting class, too, so maybe I'll try it in class. Thanks!

my 5 yo ds asked me for a pair of longies after I made some for dd! I tried adapting the little turtle knits picky pants pattern, but did something wrong - waaaay too big. I will check out the pattern in boho baby knits - looks perfect.

You can use te Aubrey Dodle pants pattern, too. It just tells you how to do the math to figure out the pattern so you can make any size with it. I knit some capris for DD with it when she was 3 that she now wears as shorts! lol
