Looking for colostrum information

Hey ladies. Does anyone have something bookmarked that says how long a newborn can survive on colostrum alone? without having to supplement?

I have read up to 10 days before but now I can't find it.

Thanks!

Just remember, surviving doesn't mean thriving. I would make an educated guess that because most mom's milk comes in between days 2-5 that that's about as far as baby should be pushed to "survive" on colostrum alone. Baby loses his extra fluid and gets hungry after a couple of days, so 10 days is way to long to expect a baby to eat only colostrum.

Plus, if your milk isn't noticably in by day 5, you should be seeing an LC - this is a potential problem.

What's the rest of the story?

But what about women who's milk takes longer to come in? The reason that I ask is because I always hear women say that they had to supplement because their milk was not in by day 2, etc. By nature, where no formula existed, what could a baby be okay with? Are you saying 2 days? Because I have read that some womens milk can take up to a week.
