We're redoing our master bath and I was planning on making something simple; possibly with large grommets or my husband may build down a little wall so you don't see the hardware. (I was planning on hanging it all the way from the ceiling.) I wanted to use a really earthy woven fabric or a thick terry cloth.

There were custom made shower curtains in the baths when we moved in. We took them all down this year - after living with them fifteen years. They were nice, but really dressy. Upholstered valances with decorative 'drape-like' curtains.

You can make the holes with a grommet making tool. Here's an example. They come in different sizes, from tiny to big, like poker chip size. Unless you are still planning on lining with a vinyl curtain, be choosy about your fabric. Cotton will rot and mold sooner, hemp is a good choice or you can also find anti mold sprays to put on the curtain.

I really like the fabric. The outside w/b laminated but the side facing the shower wouldn't be - does it matter to you that it cannot be washed? (Our previous curtains c/n/b washed so I just vacuumed them and spot cleaned them. We used a liner so they stayed dry and clean.)

Thank you for the link! I love so many of the fabrics.

You can do buttonholes as well--any fabric would work as long as you keep a plastic liner on the inside

shower curtain tips

I've literally made dozens of show curtains, for my own home and as custom orders for others.
There are several ways to handle the tops. Here are a couple of my favorites:

1. Button tabs- just like curtains. A tab that goes over the rod and buttons unto the curtain. Especially fun with all different, vintage buttons.
2. Button holes for the shower curtain rings to go through. Make these quite small and stitch them twice for strength.
3. Rod pocket- this works great with a tension rod. If you put your plastic liner on the permanent rod and a tension rod in front with the pretty curtain on it it makes it much easier to change/ wash them.

Another idea I like to use is an attached valance on any of these top options.

Oooh, I like the flower pattern. I like to be able to wash my curtain though, so it might not work for me. I usually use a polyester liner, instead of vinyl, so there is less off gassing.

They carry the same fabrics not laminated. (I like some of the flowered patterns too but prefer un-laminated.)

I did mine with buttonholes & it worked great. I just used a cheap sheet that I decorated with rick-rack & ribbon. I had to shorten it a little too. I use a liner behind it. The buttonholes work great. That way there are no metal grommets to rust or anything.

The button hole idea is really great. I never thought of that before, but I don't have an automatic button hole maker on my machine, so I kind of dread doing all those button holes.
I haven't had issues with the grommets rusting before. You can find stainless steel ones FYI.
