Just moved here and I was wondering if there were any like-minded mamas around. Does anyone know of fun things to do around here with a 1 yo?

I used to live up in that area. Welcome to CT!

Let's see. UConn has the dairy bar (great ice cream!), and if things are the way they used to be, you can walk all over Horsebarn Hill and see the different animals they raise there. In the spring, they used to let families into the barns to see the babies being born. It's also a great place to go at night to see the stars and any astronomical event that might be going on (Mars being visible, meteor shower, eclipse, etc.).

If you go down to Willimantic, there's the Frog Bridge, the Willimantic Food Co-Op, and various events at Eastern University. There also used to be a boombox parade every Thursday during the summer, with sidewalk markets and the like.

If you drive down to Niantic, off Rte. 395, there's a children's museum with plenty for little ones to do, and the Book Barn, which is an awesome used book store on an old farm. They have rescued dogs and cats, and a set of goats for kids to feed and pet. It's run by a very friendly family. Plus you can get a ton of great kids books for $1 each.

I live in Tolland which is just one town over. I think Earthmama369 pretty much summed up all the stuff we do. Mostly we just stay home, go to the library or the park down the street here. We do hit the dairy bar every now and then.
Welcome!!

Oh, I forgot the farmer's market behind St. Thomas Aquinas on N. Eagleville Road (running through campus) -- I think it's every Friday, 3-6. That might be a good place to meet other families; if it's as good as it used to be, it's definitely a great place to get local organic produce, baked goods, and textiles.

And if you need a chiro, Jenn Olynyk is in Tolland, which is close to you. She's AMAZING with kids. We're in a homeschool co-op together and she's worked on both of my kids (as well as myself). She could also point you toward local things to do, I imagine.

HELLO from Scotland! I am just 15 min. from you. There is a lot to do here if you search. I belong to the Willimantic co-op and you will find a LOT of like minded mamas there. I would be interested in getting together with any of you near by. We have a large wood playscape and a 24 foot pool here at the house and Drihan would love some friends to play with (she is 3) We aso camp so if anyone is up for camping that would be great too! Forgot to mention you might want to check out the Third Thursdays in Willimantic too.

Namaste,
Tracey

Hi,
Welcome!!
I live in Coventry which is right next to you. We have an awsome farmers market on Sundays at the Nathan Hale homestead on South St.. Previous posters have already mentioned the Willimantic food co-op. There is also a small health food store called the Healthy Alternative near UCONN. They have a great deli.
We enjoy going to the parks here in coventry and in Tolland. There are some nice places to hike as well like the Nipmuck (sp?) trail.

Are you ladies still going even with the threat of storms?

I didn't know that there was a threat of storms for today.
Should we cancel and try for another day?
That may be best as I know Drihan is petrified of storms. We are leaving tomorrow to go camping, but I will be back for next week. I am wide open next week.
