Golden Breast Awards?

I hope this is ok to post here.
I came across a dutch website some time ago where they do a virtual gouden tiet (golden boob) award. It really stuck in my head and I have started my own version. hosted on a bloggerblog
http://goldenbreastawards.blogspot.com/
I'm hoping to give people an opportunity to focus on the positive site of breastfeeding. So often we read negative articles comments etc and they just aren't helpful. ALso Its time all the people who work so hard to enable woman to breastfeed get the thanks they deserve
I hope that I can publish lots of stories on the blog which talk of support given and received, exceptional circumstances in which mums where able to breastfeed you name it. After the 31st of July there will be a poll allowing people to vote for the best one(s) The winner(s) will be presented with a golden breast (still being constructed )
I hope to get enough interest to have different categories (ie best support person best postnatal wards best lactation consultant you get the idea).
If you have someone you'd like to nominate please go to the blog it has all the info I hope

My only concern is that 'boob' has a negative connotation to many. I'd probably be amused a bit, but might at first feel insulted (till I learned more0. That's just my personal feeling. I LOVE the idea of focusing on positive stories and having an award!

I agree. I was thinking a golden boob would be more appropriate to those who have hurt the breastfeeding cause.

huh really? I never realised this I'm dutch so I guess I've just never picked up on this. I have to say I find the idea of someone being called a boob in a negative way rather insulting. My boobs do the most wonderful amazing thing why would I turn it into something negative? I appreciate the feedback though. I'm of to make some changes Thanks

While boob is a slang word for breast it also means "a stupid awkward person" and is often used as an insult.

It depends on the person- some take it as an insult, some don't.

Well, it's annoying that it's an insult, but it is what it is.

Well, how about a to the Dutch, for boob, breast, or any variation thereof, NOT being an insult .

Yes it's sad that is is an insult in English

But I love your idea. Just remember that boob isn't always that nice of a word in English .

I definitely prefer the phrase "golden breast award" rather than "golden boob award." I've never refered to my breast as "a boob"- I've only used it in the plural "boobs" or I'd say "boobies" or "boobie". "Tit" is too vulgar, and I think "boobie" is too cutesie.

IMO, part of normalizing breastfeeding is the ability to use the word "breast" comfortably in public. There's nothing wrong with using euphamisms or cutesie words for nursing amoung ourselves, especially when talking directly with nurslings, but I think that for lactivism we should use the real word.

Getting a "Golden Boobie" just doesnt' seem as serious or important as getting a "Golden Breast."
