What is a Webkinz? - Page 2

My 5 1/2 year old has 3. They are registered and one day she and I played with the website. That was the end. however, she loves them and sleeps with them everynight. We do not do many commercial toys, and the webkinz themselves are just stuffed animals. I hear her little friends at Pre-school ask each other if they have them and this has been a "mainstream" toy that allows her to feel a part of something the other kids collect without compromising the types of toys and play we do at home.

She knows that Bratz and the similar Barbies will never be in our home and she doesn't care, letting her have a few webkinz lets her be like the other kids without compromising our family guidelines

We love our Webkinz here. I like it because it is a "safe" internet site & very kid friendly. You have to win or earn points to purchase things & we have talked about budgeting with our son on what he wants to buy on the Webkinz site.
I know it has a lot of commercialism factor, but you really have to balance it out with discussion & decide if it is better to use a site dedicated for children's use or other internet sites that aren't.

A friend gave DD 3 webkinz when she was 4 and she likes them, and plays on it quite a lot, its actually not a bad website and she has learned if she buys too many things she has no money left and has to earn more, not a bad concept! Also the quizzes and things are quite good fun. I actually prefer it to some of the other sites she likes such as cartoon network for which I need to 'lose' the icon...
