Dd has a friend, 11yo, who had a bloody nose last night and now has another bloody nose. She says she gets bloody noses all the time. Is this normal?

Very. My MiL gets bloody noses. My 7 yr old DD also gets them. My BIL used to get them. I'm hoping that my DD stops getting them soon.

So do you think it's just a matter of having capillaries closer to the surface than other people? I did a search here and found a thread where someone recommended upping Vitamin K, through eating broccoli or other Vit. K foods.

It happened to me all the time as a kid. Especially in the winter when the house was dry, or during allergy season when I was more likely to be blowing/rubbing my nose. Moving to Oregon has helped the former (it's very damp here in winter!), and allergy meds have helped the second. (Interestingly, as an adult, the most reliable time for me to get them is a day or two before I menstruate. I have no idea if this is coincidence or it's an actual pattern.)

As a child, I kept having to reassure the adults around me that I was OK, and that yes, I knew what I was doing to stop it.

My DD is the same way. If the house is really hot and dry she gets a bloody nose. She also has allergies, I never though to link that with her BN. If she gets super excited and is crying hysterically her nose tends to bleed. My Dh, DD, and I always have to reassure people that she is alright. The nurse in her school recently told her that this is not normal:. I wonder how long she's been school nursing

I used to get them all the time, sleeping or awake. I'd often wake up at night as a kid with my face in a puddle on my pillow. No idea what caused it but the dr wasn't concerned. I outgrew it. I can't remember the last time I had a bloody nose.

My ds used to get them frequently for about two years, no matter what the season or humidity. I figured he had a capillary close to the surface and that somehow changed as he grew since they stopped.

I used to get torrential nose bleeds as a kid and they did everything to figure it out including removing my adenoids. Nothing they did worked except patience. Mine just went away sometime before puberty. {{{hugs!}}}

Could also be from nose mining operations too.

I've known a couple kids who have needed the vessels cauterized due to so much heavy bleeding. They also saw ENT to check for polyps.

My three year old gets frequent bloody noses. Never for no reason though, always when hsi nose gets bumped, but only fairly gently. Seems to me from wrestling with his brothers he caused some damage that has never had a chance to fully heal.
