How to disinfect naturally?

I have been using Lysol or Clorox products to spray on the kitchen counter when it gets really dirty or exposed to raw meat. I want to stop using bleach products but I don't know how to disinfect my kitchen (and I need to when DH cooks). What do you use?

i use a combo of water, dr bronner's soap, & tea tree oil. go check out the book, clean house, clean planet from the library. there are lots of great recipes in there!

We use white vinegar for that stuff mixed with tea tree oil if it is really gunky. I worked with a woman whose mother was a nurse and she said her mom always just diluted plain old rubbing alcohol to disinfect. I have used it in the bathroom once in a while and it worked really well.

I just use dishsoap and hot water in the kitchen. To disinfect bathroom-type areas, I use white vinegar, diluted or not depending on the strength I want.

This explains how to safely use vinegar and hydrogen peroxide as a one-two punch for disinfecting.

I was just about to recommend the 2 punch method...vinegar followed by peroxide.

You can even use it on fresh produce that you won't be cooking like salads and such.

I use a spray bottle with diluted white vinegar in it for most cleaning, with a few drops of TTO in it. (The dilution depends on the job. For most cleaning it's about 1 part vinegar to 8 parts water. For a really dirty job I'd do about half and half.)

I'd use vinegar for most normal stuff, like sticky counters.

However, I am paranoid about raw meat. So I spritz on full strength rubbing alcohol to disinfect those areas. It's just as strong as bleach, but a lot better for the environment. And I am sure that nothing will be able to survive it either, lol!

Not meaning to derail, but for those of you who use the vinegar/peroxide, doesn't peroxide bleach your clothes? How do you avoid getting it on yourselves or your colored dishtowels?

I did the vinegar in a spray bottle too. But then I met and fell in love with Sal's Suds. I keep a spray bottle with some of that diluted, and use it everywhere.
