Stacked laundry units? Opinions please

Dh and I are thinking of selling our old washer and dryers, which came with the house and are in crappy condition- to buy a used but newer (2007) Whirlpool stacked W&D that we can put upstairs. It has become really difficult to do laundry downstairs in our disgusting basement, and I just wondered if anyone had any opinions on these. Are they big enough? Do they do the job? We are (almost) a family of 4.

Thanks!

We have the LG high efficiency units, which are able to be stacked, bought one year ago. We bought the model with adaptable controls, meaning that the controls for the dryer could be placed within easy reach, as opposed to having to stand on tip toes to reach the dryer controls--if you know what I mean? I love the huge capacity I have. I have had regular stacked units as well. We do a lot of laundry and honestly they were too small for us. If you don't do a lot of laundry, the regular stacked unit might be ok, but I reccomend the stackable HE units.

We have stackable HE units as well, which I would recommend. The ones that are pre-stacked definitely do not have enough room for us, but I can fit an entire laundry basket in our HE washers with room to spare (we have 2 frigidaire units - I need all the capacity I can get with 4 kids under 6 and just recently out of diapers).

we had a bosch stackable and it was ridiculously small. i was constantly doing laundry. the washer broke after several years (should have lasted longer) and i replaced it with a he asko side by side. much better!

Pre-stacked units are smaller than stackable washer/dryer configurations. If it's a pre-stacked unit you might need a larger capacity. I had a pre-stacked unit in an apartment when I was single and it was great, but could only hold a one person load of clothing at a time, IYKWIM.

The stackable configurations have a distinct advantage over the pre-stacked units in that the units can be replaced individually.

We sold the washer & dryer that came with our house in 2005 and bought stackable, full-size Kenmore front-loading HE units, new.

Personally, I LOVE our stacked units, and I LOVE having them stacked. Note they are "stackable", so they can be separated, but even though we just moved into a house with a much larger laundry room I've opted to keep them stacked because I really just like them that way. The space that I would normally have used for one washer and one dryer side-by-side is currently holding the stacked washer/dryer and our modest chest freezer.

I washed DD's cloth diapers in there, 3 or 4 loads a week, plus all our other clothes, no problem.

I like my Duet Sport. I don't stack them, but read they can be.
