Has anyone ever ripped out their stitches? TMI

I tore giving birth, so they gave me stitches, but I am pretty darn sure that I ripped them out. It hurts like crazy down there and I had dh look and he said that there is definately a spot where it should be sewn together but isn't. But there are no stitches anymore, since it has been a week, so I don't know if they did a bad sew up job or if I tore the stitches. Anyway, has this ever happened to anyone else? Do they have to restitch you to fix it? Anyone know what they do for this? Thanks!

Ouch, that gave me the chills just reading the title! I've never had that before, but if it's hurting you, I would definitely call where ever it was you had it done (don't remember if you had a hospital or homebirth) and see if you can be seen. How many stitches did you get? Maybe if it was only a few it could heal up on it's own...

What kind of stitches did they use? Sometimes hcps use disolvable stitches. If your ph (or whatever) is more acid they will dissolve too soon - that's what happened to me. I had to get the mw out to redo the stitches w/old school stitching thread. This sucks postpartum to have to deal with. Stay on top of it - it'll heal better.

nak

definitely get checked out but it could be a drainage hole deliberately left for fluid to drain out - i have one in my stitches - & not something to worry about!
