Searching "%1$s"

If I do a search for a term where there are no matches, I get the following message:

What's up with the %1$s? If it's supposed to mean something, it's not exactly intuitive. Also not sure why there is a #1 prefacing the text. If it's the only thing in the list, I don't exactly need a number to tell me it's #1. (as an aside, are there cases where you'd get a #2, #3 etc.?)
