Just kidding. At least I know it's not something wrong on my end.

I am going to have to retrain my mouse. It only knows how to use the New Posts feature. I guess this old dog will just have to learn new tricks.

Yeah. I might just have to reset things so I subscribe to everything I ever post on, then I can click on "user CP" and find a bunch of posts.

I just prefer to save that feature for the more important threads, and I don't want to clutter it up with EVERY single post I ever post on (I want to keep up with the Jewish Mamas thread and if it's on page 2 of my subscribed threads I might miss it!)

Maybe I'll just spend less time online until MDC is back to normal. I should be helping DD1 pack for camp anyway!

I'm not sure why it's giving the .au google but now it's not. At least not for me. I reformatted the search through Google, produced new code and placed it and it's no longer giving me .au

Yes, we hope just a few days. We have a third party administrator that handles our more technical backend issues and he is working on the search index so it's not something for which we can give a sure time frame. That's his guesstimate. If any other issues pop up in the process it could be delayed. If things go more smoothly and quicker than anticipated then it could be done sooner.

Why did this happen in the first place? We pay $$ to be able to access the features of the site.

How do you do this?

Corruption of the search index occurred so that it had to be rebuilt again. We have nearly 12 million posts and compiling the search index for that many posts takes a very long time. It is a very intensive task that places a high load on the server when it is running. So, coupled with disabling the indexing when there is a lot of traffic on the boards so that we avoid the slow loading and high loads that cause a crash, it takes weeks.

We did complete a full search index about a week ago. But the search feature was operating very slowly so more table work was done to optimize this and resolve the slowness. This created the need for yet another index to incorporate this change to the tables. But the indexing is running more quickly this time, thanks to the optimization. The indexing is disabled at high traffic times so it's not going to be done in the 2-3 days predicted it would take to complete. When? I don't know. This is all being handled by our server manager so we're just waiting and hoping it will be done by the weekend.

Will the search feature only be useful if one has a paid/pink user name? When the search function was "working", I usually couldn't search and find what I was looking for.

I don't pay and I never had problems with the search, except that search terms need to be (I think) four or more characters long. That's a bit of a pain sometimes but I'm pretty sure that applies to everyone, paid or not. I always use the advanced search.

I also beleive you need to have a paid membership to be able to search for more than one search term (say "plastic bottle" as opposed to searching for either "plastic" or "bottle"). But the limitations on search terms less than 4 letters long is for everybody, unless they manually add in specific 3 letter terms (such as "HPV"; they're not going to put in "add" "for" "the" "etc" etc.) I'm guessing that manually adding in popular 3 letter search terms is incredibly low priority right now.

When the search function was working, I couldn't get any thing of value with lately. Long time ago, it worked great.
