new posts/search - Page 5

I just got a note telling me I haven't posted in a while. But how can I post without my new posts feature? I hope its not longer than a month!

Me too! I just came on for a particular question! I was searching desperately. Atleast, I know I am not alone. I too will try the google approach. **sigh**

I don't either, and the way I use search, google isn't a useful replacement. But I'll wait it out. It's not like they're doing this intentionally to tick us off.

Does anyone have some sort of guesstimate on when the Search feature may be available again?

whew I am glad to know that it is a temporary thing. I was starting to give up here because it is so hard to find my way around. I always use new post on other forums.

Hi, we apologize for the inconvenience anyone is experiencing. We're working very hard to provide a solution, but currently there is not an update. Updated information will be posted as soon as it's available. Thanks for your continued patience

i miss them. its harder to find stuff now. yes, i know we can do the google mothering search but still...

Bumping

I'm so sorry for the delay. We have been in the midst of changing server administrators which complicated and delayed everything.

We abandoned efforts to get our vBulletin search engine up and running again. We surrendered to what seems to be a "get over it" truth - once you reach so many millions of posts in vBulletin, the search engine no longer functions well. It weighs heavy on the server and especially so when you have a large membership using search. After much frustration and investigation into our options we have settled on Sphinx.

We hired the Sphinx team to configure and integrate everything. I signed the contract today. Now we are waiting our turn in line to get the work started. I was told today that they will be able to begin in 1-2 days. A day's work should complete the integration. And yes, I did put in a specific request for 3 letter words to be searchable.

There may be a period of tweaking things to get it working smoothly. So if they do accomplish it over the next three days we could have some further work ahead to get it just right.

That's all I have for an update right now. I'll let you know more when there's more to tell.

I have missed the search and new posts buttons, but I'll happily wait a bit longer if it means that three letter word searching is on the horizon.
