Flooring advice or suggestions?

I've been shopping for a few weeks for new flooring for our bedrooms. We've pulled out the carpet and were originally thinking of going with laminate. However, I was unable to find any formaldehyde-free laminate flooring, so I started looking at bamboo flooring. Well...so far the only bamboo flooring I've been able to find also contains formaldehyde, albeit at much lower levels then is considered "acceptable" by European standards. So now I'm looking at hardwood, preferably from sustainable forests, but I've also read that hardwood gives off formaldehyde, but I can't find out how much and for how long. Also, I'm a bit concerned about the stains/surface chemicals they put on the hardwood. While there are other environmentally friendly floorings (linoleum, cork, wool carpet) I've ruled these out for one reason or another. Anyhow, have any of you looked into these things and come to any conclusions that may help me along? Thanks so much!!

I went with prefinished hardwood so that it wouldn't be done in our home as I thought that might reduce the fumes and off gassing here. It was a bit of not-in-my-backyard-ism but but I went with sustainably harvested natural product.
