I just had to share. I'm so excited waiting for all of my stuff to come in the mail. I'm going all-out with the diaper making adventure.
I bought a snap press & dies & poly-resin snaps from the snap store
I bought 2MIL PUL (in various pretty colors
and microfleece from a SAHM, as well as polyurethane elastic & high quality velcro.
I bought microfiber towels to make soakers
I went and bought one bum genius 3.0 one size AIO pocket diaper & took it apart to make my pattern.
I made my pattern and had it made into 1/4 plate glass, that way I can use my quilting rotary cutter to cut out the pieces since I can't pin through the PUL & It takes so long to cut out pieces accurately even when you can pin on the pattern.
So far I've got about $250 into it & should be able to make 60 diapers w/ the materials bought. It would have been $1137 after tax to buy 60 bum genius-and $250 is only like 3 months of disposables. Plus if I ever want to make more I won't have the investment again of the snap press, and I'll have lots of snaps left over
I know I should only need 24-36 diapers in rotation but W/ a babysitter & grandma's and aunt's etc. houses each having a little stash I knew 36 wouldn't cut it. (I'll wash them all myself but I wan't to leave a "clean" pile all those places) I don't want to be a diaper natzi always trying to keep track of where my 24 diapers are.
I'm REALLY hoping that with having such a big rotation and splurging for the better quality materials upfront I'll have better luck then the reviews for the store bought bum-genius 3.0 as far as longevity.
Has anyone else tried to make the bum genius at home w/ any success?
