1.5 or 2" Velcro, Alpix or Touch Tape???

I finally sewed diapers out of the MM fleece that I bought last winter. But, all I had on hand was some 1" velcro, and I am sewing size large diapers. The velcro was left over from some holiday gift diapers I made for some newborns. I can't keep the size large diaper on the kid with 1" velcro! We are in a somewhat remote location and I will probably end up ordering wider hook & loop from somewhere online.

So, for size large pocket dipes, should I use 1.5" or 2"? And, does it matter if it is Velcro, Alpix or Touch Tape??? TIA for your input!

I would definately not use velcro. It just won't hold up to all the washings and it isn't strong enough-especially when little fingers figure out that they can pull the diapers open! I don't think there's really a difference between Aplix and touchtape as far as strength, someone told me once that aplix is softer but I have never used it so I don't know if that's true. Touchtape tends to be a little less expensive so that's what I used. For my first round of diapers I used the 1.5 inch and it worked fine. For the larger sizes I got the 2 inch, which i like the look of better and it is definatley stronger. It is so strong in fact that it has been pulling itself right off the diaper. I don't know if I sewed it too close to the edge or if my stitches were too close together....it seems like I have to mend it down after every few washes! I am going to try to sew some further in from the edge of the hook and loop and also with a wider stitch and see if that helps, otherwise I am going back to the 1.5 inch. maybe I will use two strips of the 1.5 instead of 1 strip of 2.

Thank you so much! This is such a huge help.

I prefer Touch Tape, but you can use Aplix or Touch Tape for cloth diapering items.
