Hi, everyone! I just wanted to announce the birth of our new baby girl, Lucy Joy!

She was born yesterday afternoon into the water at Mother's Own. It really was beautiful! (hard, but still beautiful) Thank you, thank you, Linda, for providing such a wonderful place to birth our baby! :

Congratulations, Cindy! What a beautiful name! Can't wait to see pictures & meet her!

Oh, and about the previous post... my husband found the sling in the garage! He had put "bags of junk" in the garage from cleaning out the car & it was in one of them. Praise God!

I am open to all suggestions!
We recently got rid of all the plastic we use the most. We recycled as much as we could and took the rest to good will or once upon a child. I guess its not the best to pass it along to someone else, but its better than throwing in the trash!

We are also looking into getting cast iron and getting rid of our tephlon. My dh went to this kitchen/restaurant warehouse in P'burg, kind of past Owens CC, off of 475 and they had cast iron. They looked up prices for it, but gave us the wholesale price and didn't know how much they mark-up. So we have to call back for prices. Also if Bass Pro Shops put their cast iron on sale, that will be a good price too. Also Elder Beerman has Pyrex glass storage containers on sale for 50% off this week. That and Anchor glass storage containers are the only ones we use now.

Carla emailed me a good way to season or de-season cast iron, so not too much gets in your diet. Maybe she can chime in here.

The microwave is next on my list, but I don't know how dh will do w/o it! I do use it less and less though!

We are also getting rid of as many chemicals in the household that we can. We mainly use vinegar/baking soda to clean with some other natural products. I just got some mineral makeup. And we are trying to find natural shampoo and soaps that we like. (Trying Dr. Bronners right now.) I don't know if I could ever go to no-poo, but you never know! I also just ordered a natural deodorant. Also just started using Tooth Soap, it is very interesting, the kids seem to like it.

I loved getting rid of all our plastic, it really is freeing! Even though we've had 3 glass cup casualties in the past couple of weeks, it really is worth it. Thank goodness for Libbey Glass! We only use glass cups while at home and stainless steel sippy's when out. I love my thermos stainless steel water bottle and the kids stainless steel straw sippy's I got at Target. (In the camping section.) It keeps the kids and my water SO cold for a long time. There is usually ice in them the next day! I just need to get a foogo sippy for the baby now! Meijer also has the thermos ss straw sippy's in the cup/plates section.

If so, what are your personal pros/cons about them? How do you personally wash them? Do you use them when you're out of your house? How many do you use in a cycle? And do they "show" through your underwear (they sound thick)? I've read through all the FAQ on the Luna Pads website but still have those questions & I trust your guys' opinions. TIA!
Hi Ruth!

Yes, I have used Luna Pads for many years now. I love them!!! I purchased the Organic starter set several years ago and have never needed anything else. I did add some pp pads to my stash.
I would wash them pretty much the same as cloth dipes. I choose to line dry for extended life, etc.
I don't think they are any thicker than a disposable pad myself.

Intro

Hello all

I am Stephanie wife to Chad and momma to Kaline (11-23-04) and my beautiful HBAC baby Whitaker (9-28-07). Born at home with Linda of Mothers Own.

Before my own children I worked as an assistant at Meadow Montessori in Monroe, MI.

We AP, babywear, exclusively cloth diaper, breastfeed, no vax, no circ(if we should ever have a boy), co-sleep, chemical free, mostly plastic free, mostly organic/all natural foods/products, vegetarian, natural parenting, nature loving, peaceful, fun loving family!

After Whitaker's birth my life began to evolve and change, doors began opening that have pointed me down my life's true path. I believe that birth can deeply affect our physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

I am a DONA trained Birth Doula who can't get enough information about natural, physiological birth and natural parenting choices. I am thrilled to be starting my career as a birth professional.
While preparing for my doula training, out of the blue it came to me that I "needed" to visit Ina May Gaskin's Farm in Summertown, TN. I am excited to be heading there in August for the Midwives Assistant training workshop!

Going along with my love of pregnant bellies and new babies(!) I currently do belly casting, Henna, and photography.

Hi ladies, loving reading the newand repeated intros.

For those of you long timers, I ran into Tammy and her daughter Gemma at the perrysburg Farmer's Market yesterday. They are doing great. Tammy and I are the two that first started this tribe on mothering. We were getting together for regular playdates and looking to find other like minded mommas in the area. that is how this little group evolved over two years ago I am thrilled that it has lead to a central place to bring together local like-minded mommas and the spin offs of cloth diapering and baby wearing and all the info that has been shared on existing groups and meetings

Now a favor/question. Do any of you mommas have any wrap skirts? The ones like they are talking about here? http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=917888 I really really want a short and a medium to take on my honeymoon next week (leaving the 12th) but I don't think my order will arrive on time so I was hoping maybe one of you (or a few ) might already have them in your wardrobe and would be willing to let me borrow them for my trip. Looking for a 20, 22, or 24 inch and a 28 or 30 inch preferably

Hi just wanted to say that we have been microwave free for the last 4 or 5 years. When I had a ton of hormone problems that is one of the steps to health that we changed. We lived in an apartment so we never had our own and when we moved into this house everybody who tried to give us one I simply gave it back to them. I think that our parents had a much harder time with it then we did. It really is not too difficult but it does take a little extra planning for meals at first. Now we don't think twice. We do use our toaster oven to heat things in, the stove and the stove top which doesn't take very long for left overs. One of the things that I notice is that when I'm in a room with a microwave I get a headache. I can't remember where I read it but if you can't get rid of it at first at least unplug it so the rays are not still admitting harmful stuff into your home.

We also recycle everything, we do not even have garbage service. The stuff that we can't recycle we burn (which may or may not be good but at least it doesn't go into a landfill). And every other month we may have one bag to throw out which our neighbor lets us put it in front of his house. We do not even have a garbage in our kitchen. It mostly gets fed to the chickens or composted.

I'm trying to get rid of our plastic but I'm finding it hard. The kitchen stuff is not so bad. We have stainless steel and cast iron for cooking. Carla I would love to know about seasoning it better, it was my grandma's. I need to buy more storage containers. The hardest is the toys. We have a ton of wood stuff but still have some plastice. How do I part with it. I still have toys from when my sister and I were babies. That is what I'm having difficulty with. ARghhhhh.

Shelly, I would love to make an appoinment with you too before this baby comes

Cindy, congratulations on your water birth and welcome to the world baby Lucy. WHat a beautiful name!!! so glad to hear that everybody's healthy.

Steph, I would be interested in your photograpy and maybe other services. I'm due July 23 and need to get some good pictures and myself, husband and 2 year old. Could you pm me some info??? THanks

I usually re-heat leftovers on the stovetop and it doesn't take that much longer. Sometimes I use our toaster oven. It just depends on the type of food. Toaster ovens are fine b/c it is "regular" heat.

US issues health warning over mercury fillings

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-st...gs-856582.html

Just another reason that I don't trust what the government tells me!

And Gary just told me that there is some to-do about Gardisil (the new vaccine for HPV). I haven't read anything on it yet.

Elissa C. Teal

PS I just got a "you're a naughty parent" letter from the Ohio Dept of Health b/c I have not vaccinated George.

b/f mom waiving vaccines

I know this has been posted before but where can one find the form to waive vaccines for school? I know of a breastfeeding woman that has a one month old that wants to waive some vaccines required for school. A response today or early tomorrow morning would be great so I can get back to her right away.
