My hands-down favorite glass storage container for my pantry are these:

They fit 2 deep so you can use your cabinet space efficiently. I used to use 1 gallon jars but I found that I wasted alot of space. Here is a picture of my dry goods cabinet that I posted on my blog recently:

I found some nice glass mason jars at Ikea. Do you think they would still be food safe if I painted labels on the outside with glass paint?

I use these from Target. They have three different sizes although they don't have them online. I actually pay 6.99 for the gallon jar in the store. They are from the Anchor Hocking Co. and the label says made in the USA.
