Pretty patches...

Any suggestions on creating pretty patches for the holey knees in dd's sweats?

The sweats are on their second child and the first was really hard on the knees. Ariel hasn't worn any holes in the knees of her new stuff.

I don't have a (working) sewing machine.

TIA

You could try pretty fabric that is just ironed on to the pants with "stitch witchery". They also sell those iron-on patches, which you could decorate with little emblems or embroidery.

Thank you so much for trying to save your daughter's dignity!!! Whenever I got holes int he knees of my jeans, my gramma used to patch them up but the patches never matched the jeans! I was soooo embarrassed! Ok, here is my idea

Cut out flower shapes from fabric with a seperate color for the middle. Use fusible web to iron it on but you will have to also do the same thing from the other side although on the iside it could just be a square of fabric. Of course put a flower on each knee so that it looks like they are supposed to be there.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Does the stitch witchery come w/good instructions? There were 3 different varieties at joann.com. Which one do I need?

Layering the fabric to make a flower is a great idea. I hope I can find some good prints & colors in my rag bag. Just how big does a patch need to be? The holes of course are pretty small, but I see some thinning/wear on the fabric around them.

I just can't believe the fancy outfits people dress their kids in for daycare!

The fusible web that I use comes with instructions. It's really easy. I buy the stuff the comes on the roll. I don't remember what it is called but it's not stitch witchery.

I would make the flower big enough to cover the knees and look decorative. Maybe cut some out of paper first to decide which size looks the best.
