Moms of twins...if you gained 50+ lbs...

Just curious, mamas...if you gained 50+ lbs while you were pregnant with your twins, how long did it take you to lose the weight? Did it come off quickly, or did a significant portion of it come off right after birth?

I think I am probably up about 40-45lbs now at 31.5 weeks, and I am soooo uncomfortable. I feel heavy and sluggish, I'm swollen, and I'm starting to wonder how long it will take me to shed at least a chunk of this weight after birth. I know there's not a way to really predict it, but I'm wondering what other's experiences have been! Thanks!

I'm new to this board, but I'm a mom to 20 month old boy/girl twins.

I gained almost 50 pounds during my pg and was very uncomfortable and in quite a bit of pain towards the end. I had my babies (vaginally) at 37w1d gestation and was down 20 pounds within about 4/5 days. By 6 months pp I was 4 pounds above my pre-pg weight and was feeling pretty good about myself! I nurse my twins, so I just figured I was one of the lucky ones that bf'ing works to help mom lose weight. Then, around 9 months pp, my children night weaned fully and I started gaining weight. I got back irregular AF's and put on even more weight. Right now, I'm 20 pounds above my pre-pg weight and it.won't.budge. I'm eating a pretty strict diet and exercising regularly and my weight isn't going down. Since I'm still bf'ing, I'm hoping that's the issue and it will be easier once my children are weaned.

Anyway, long answer to a short question

Best of luck!

I'm pretty sure I gained over 50, but was at the hospital at the end and they never weighed me. My babies are 4 1/2 months old, and I'm about 15 lbs. over my old weight.

But I gained 50 lbs. with my first child and 42 or so with my second, and lost it all both times. It just took 9 months or so. So . . . hopefully I'll lose it all again this time. It seems like it just takes me awhile each time.

It'll be interesting to see if it's different with twins!

I gained almost 85 lbs. I was over 200 lbs and i am only 5' tall! I lost nearly 100 lbs in the first year pp. Most of it came off in the first 4 months, and then just from nursing the boys I would have sudden drops in weight around their growth spurts.

I gained 80 lbs, delivered at 38 weeks exactly w/ a 5 lb 14 oz baby and a 6 lb 10 oz baby. At my 6 week check, I had lost 60 lbs, and I don't know where I'm at now. I think my loss was in the first 4 weeks, because I had gained 2 lbs at the 6 week!!!
I'm kind of wedging myself into old clothes, but it's not pretty Hoping more will fall off soon. FYI, I'm exclusively BF'ing.

I gained 80 lb & it was gone by 6 months PP. I nursed the girls and I also went for walks with them everyday, pushed them up San Francisco hills in my MBUD. But I ate whatever I wanted. I remember having serious cravings for Paul Newman's Chocolate Chip cookies.

This time, I gained 60 lb with my singleton. He's almost 6 months old, I am exclusively nursing, but not walking everyday. I still have 30 lbs to go. Ugh.

Thanks so much for sharing, girls! I will not be nursing (I'm carrying the babies for friends of mine and they aren't local) but I will be pumping for them, so hopefully that will help! I gained a lot with my singletons, but the weight never "fell off" like I hear it can with twins.

I can't wait to be lighter, LOL. Not for vanity reasons - it hurts to be this heavy! My hips are killing me. Just a few more weeks, though!

I gained 65 pounds. I lost all of my weight within 2 months. I actually weighed less after having them then before I got pregnant.

I gained 80+ pounds and was 10 lbs BELOW my pre-baby weight by the time mine were 12 weeks old.

In fact, I had trouble keeping weight on for the first six months of breastfeeding.

I had the same experience as some of you. I had lost a lot of weight just before coceiving (about 45 lbs) and then was on medication that made me heavier. I only gained about 50lbs while I was pregnant with the boys. By the time they were 4 weeks old I had lost all of the weight and then some. I looked better than I did when I was in high school! I am now back up a bit, but still weigh less than I did before I got pregnant.

I gained almost 90 lbs the first time and lost 70 lbs within the first 6 weeks or so... The last 20 came off by 6 months post partum. I'm 28 weeks right now and am up 45 lbs so far. I'm hoping it comes off easily this time too! You should surely lose a big portion of your weight gain immediately after the birth.

I gained 62 pounds. I am 8 months pp and I am 10 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight. It came off slowly but surely just from nursing my girls.

I gained about 60lb and lost I think 50lb by 6 weeks after they were born. I don't think I have lost any weight since then (mine are almost 3) but things have re-arranged and I have gained muscle and lost fat.

My twins are 7 months old and I weigh less than I did pre-pregnancy. I gained just about 50 lbs. I lost all of it in the first 2 1/5 weeks. I think it was the breast feeding and the fact that I didn't have much time to eat and when i did it was only enough to keep my milk supply. Even though I lost the weight, I'm still a size bigger in pants than before but I'm working on it!

If there is anything I can recommend for losing weight it's breast feeding. not only is it good for you to lose the weight but also soooo much healthier for the baby!

I only gained 40 and it's pretty much gone. I've got a few pounds left. I was down 20 pounds just from the birth (they were 6.6 and 7.6 and had at least 5 pounds of placenta in there!) and then sweated out another 10 in the first couple weeks. At their 4 week check up I was 10 pounds away and today I looked thinner but haven't weighed just yet.

I gained 50 lbs, lost about 20 after the babies were born (had 14 lbs of baby in me). They are 3 wks old and I have 10 more to go. I am nursing so am eating anything and everything -- even my older kids are starting to look good -- just kidding, I have had a crazy day!!! I am guessing the last 10 will come right off. I also walk 5-7 days a week (for health and sanity).

HOW are you finding the time to walk? I keep trying but when it's cool enough to get outside I'm so freaking beat...
I gained 55 pounds, and lost 35 somewhere in those blurry first months with no effort at all. Unlike most twin mamas, those last 20 pounds have stuck around and dd's are almost three years old.

Some of the lack of weight loss I know is due to the extended lack of sleep . Lack of sleep leads to lack of exercise because (to quote Intertwined) "I'm so freaking beat".

My local Twins club posted the same question and EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON. talked about how simply they lost the weight. I just couldn't bring myself to say that wasn't the case for me.

I gained 62 lbs and it took me about a year to lose it all. I lost the first 40 lbs my first week PP but the other 22 lbs took another year to come off.
I only gained I think 31 pounds... maybe 34? and lost 27 of it by 2-3 weeks pp... but then my weight loss seems to have stalled and then reversed. I have since learned domperidone causes weight gain and I am taking dom because my supply is crap. Ugh! I feel like a cow. Babies are nearly 3 months and I am still wearing my maternity pants. Dunno if it's the dom or my total inability to get out and walk like I did after I had my son... lack of exercise + dom + eating not so great, it all ads up. With my son I was 15 pounds below preg weight by 5 months pp. (gained 31 with him)
