wonder wash and which detergent?

I just got a wonder wash (hand crank clothes washer) and it works great but I was wondering what kind of detergent to use. We usually use the Costco brand for our other clothes to use with the laundry machines downstairs but I had to use so much water to rinse out the detergent by hand after using the wonder wash (I used about 1 Tbsp for 2 lbs of clothes). What kind of detergent washes out easily? I can try using just a tsp. per load. Would borax or Dr. Bronner's work? There's just so much residue that I can't rinse out well.

I'll be doing small loads of diapers (mostly prefolds) soon as well, so I don't want to have soap left on the diapers that might irritate baby's skin.

Also, what do you do about ring-around-the-collar for dress shirts? I use Shout because it's easy to get the collars sparkling but it's also really hard to rinse out, not to mention not very green.

Any suggestions very welcome!
Thanks,
Liane

eta: Would rinsing with a bit of vinegar help? How much, do you think? I do 3 dress shirts with 3 quarts of water for washing.

Still jealous!

Glad to hear it works well.

Have you ever tried the biokleen liquid? That's what I use (only 1tb for a full sized load in a HE front loader, though). But it's such a light detergent, very mild, but works great.

I would think if you just used literally a drop or two of biokleen or Dr. B's or something similar that would probably work well, be plenty for that amount of clothes and water, and rinse well enough.

I know vinegar works great for rinsing residue (I always did an occasion vinegar rinse for my cloth diapers), but I'm not sure how much you would use and how to get it to rinse well.

I'll try and pick up some biokleen at the store next time I go! Where can I buy it? I also put in an order for some Charlie's Soap detergent. I got some of the liquid one as well to try on my wool. Wool wash is so expensive! I'll be glad if this stuff does the trick.
