I need a basic model front loader....any suggestions?

I'm about to start researching fl washers but would love to know what you use and if you love it.

I already know we are not getting a Duet....

I just need a basic model...I never use different washing methods, just the regular wash. It will be used in the basement. I REALLY need it to be as inexpensive as possible (will be researching rebate opportunities too).

we have a bosch nexxt 500 series and it's been an AMAZING machine! they do have more basic models though......although i'm not sure what they are. i would try looking at lowes as this is where we found our best pricing on bosch. just remember that you get what you pay for. find a high quality brand and select their least expensive model......i personally have found this to be more cost effective than buying the high end model of a subpar brand.

we've been very happy with all of our bosch appliances......that great german engineering and all!

I bought a Kenmore one from Sears. I think it's this one. So $800 CDN. I'm sure you can find an equivalent one in the US.

We've had it for three years and have zero complaints about it. It leaves the clothes so clean! Spin cycle leaves them nearly dry too, which is great for line drying.

I've never had any moisture/seal/mold/smell problem people often have with front loaders. Could be because I leave the door slightly open when not in use.

I have an LG Tromm. It's kind of like a hybrid, I guess, in that it has a "direct drive system." What it does is recapture the energy of its own spinning drum and puts that energy back into spinning some more. If you put your hand in there and spin the drum, it will actually generate enough energy to make the washer come on (I mean, it doesn't start filling with water or anything, but the panel lights up). It uses about the same amount of electricity as a clock radio when it's in operation.

I've had it for 3 years with no mechanical problems and very satisfactory performance. The only issue has been a problem common to many frontloaders...the water doesn't drain 100%, so it can smell a little "mildewish" in there sometimes. The solution is to occasionally leave the door ajar so it can dry out. Just check for the cat before you wash!

On my recommendation of the Bosch Nexxt series, my BFF bought a Nexxt 100, since that fit her family's budget and needs better. She's been very happy with it.

I bought a Frigidaire Gallery front loader in the scratch and dent section of my local Famous Tate's for $250 - almost eight years ago. I have abused this thing royally and it still works great. I have zero complaints. It even handles my king comfortor well.

I think the current price for one of these new (or its equivalent) is around $650.

I have a Frigidaire Gallery Series front loader that I absolutely loved, until recently. (Worked well for us for about 1.5 years) It is stinking up to high heaven- makes my clothes stink, laundry room stink everything. I have always left the door open to air it out after loads, so it is not neglectful use on my part. I just think there are parts in it that never really get a chance to dry out, so they have mildewed. I also have tried everything under the sun to get it cleaned out- some cleaner called "Smellywasher" even *gasp* bleach! It still reeks. I miss my top loader. :
I know the above poster has the model we have and likes it. But I just can't recommend it. Not after this mildew stuff. Yuck.
