I need a play dough recipe please

I'm sure there is a forum for this, but I couldn't decide which one.

I need a recipe for play dough. I really don't want to go out and buy any more, and it will make a great activity for the day. Anyone..

TIA,

Here is the recipe I use,

Cooked Playdough

2 cups flour
1 cup salt
2 cups water
2 tablespoons oil
4 teaspoons cream of tartar
food coloring if desired

Combine dry ingredients. In separate bowl, combine wet ingredients. Mix all ingredients together. Cook on medium heat for 3-5 minutes. Cool on counter for 20-25 minutes, kneading occasionally. Once cooled, store in air tight container.

Thanks!

I use the same recipe but half every amount Laura said.
This way I can make two smaller batches of two different
colors.....without my arm falling off!:LOL
I also just dump all the ingredients together in the pot and
start stirring. And, I knead right away and let the kids play
with it within minutes. They love playing with warm playdough
and it helps the dough combine and stay soft.
Try adding glitter and scent as well!

I just made orange playdough today and added pumpkin
spice to it!

BTW...T...moving this to the crafts forum for ya

This is the best recipe I've ever tried for play dough. It is smooth, not grainy at all, and very workable.

~*~Scented Play Dough~*~

Mix together: 1 cup flour, 1/4 cup salt, 2 tablespoons cream of tartar, 1 pkg of powdered drink mix (Kool Aid or the like)

Stir in: 1 cup water and 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Stir over med heat till it forms a ball, knead on a floured surface, store in an airtight container.

***I divide the batch in half and use 2 different packs of Kool Aid

This is another good one that is really fun too!

~*~GAK~*~

You'll need: 4 oz white glue, 1 cup water, 1 teaspoon Borax, food coloring (if desired)

Pour glue and 1/2 cup of water in a bowl and mix. Add food coloring if you want. In 2nd bowl, , mix remaining water and Borax. Pour the 2 mixtures together and stir... this will be a thick mass in a liquid. When the glob has formed into one chunk, pour off remaining liquid. Knead and stretch and it will thicken nicely.

Don't eat this btw.

Have fun!

pb and j's recipe is the same one that I use. It is wonderful, and I've had many compliments on it. I double the recipe, except I just use one package of Kool-Aid, and give half to a friend, neighbour, or a teacher. They are all grateful.

BTW, use unsweetened KoolAid.

I tried pb&j's recipe yesterday. I didn't measure anything and I didn't have koolaid but it still came out fine. It was a little soft for using cookie cutters and what not (probably because I didn't follow the recipe exactly) but it was very nice and smooth. The kids loved it! It's the first recipe I have ever made where you didn't feel the salt all over.

Kat, sometimes if it is a little undercooked, it will be softer. I have found that sticking it in the microwave for a minute on medium-high will make it less sticky and better for cookie-cutters.

That's a great tip! I find that different batches I make can have different consistencies, but I didn't realize it was from the cooking time. Does that work for older dough too?

Gee, I never tried fixing up old playdough. I mostly think that after a few days in our house, the playdough is sooooo yucky and full of stuff I don't even want to think about (we use it to make moustaches and beads sometimes) that it is best to just replace it. You could try it, though, and then just throw it out if something bad happens in the microwave.

Dryer Lint Clay

Dryer Lint Clay

This velvet-like dough is a great way to recycle old dryer lint.

What You Will Need:

3 cups dryer lint
2 cups warm water
2/3 cup wheat flour

How To Concoct It:
  • 1. Mix all ingredients together in a large sauce pan.
    2. Have an adult cook the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly until the mixture starts to hold together.
    3. Pour the mixture out onto several layers of newspapers to cool.
    4. Dryer Lint Clay dries to a hard, smooth finish.

Concoction Tips & Ideas:
  • Shape the Dryer Lint Clay over bottles, boxes, and balloons.
