Frustrated over dollmaking--want to use another pattern

So, I'm trying to make Waldorfish dolls, but I want them to be shaped as close to a real baby as possible in a more simplified form. (I Don't know if any of that made any sense.)

I want to make some in flesh tones/hair tones, and some more fantasy like.

I"ve been using my own pattern, tweaking it here and there, but I can NOT, for the life of me, get the shape of the head and the body quite right....not to my liking anyway.

My pattern is only good enough that I can get the head and body shape to look ok when I use stretchy fabric...which you're supposed to use to shapen cloth dolls...

But I have a few scraps of beautiful fanciful non-stretchy (woven) fabric that I want to use up, and in order to get the head and the body to look right with non-stretchy fabric, the pattern must be just-so. Which mine is not...and I don't know WHAT to do to it to make it "just-so". In non-stretchy fabrics, my heads come up kinda boxy looking.

I have a pattern or two in mind that I would like to try, one that I've used before (lost the pattern a long time ago, need to purchase another one) and I LOVED the results, at least as far as the shape of the head and torso are concerned. I want more simplistic and more curled up arms and legs, so I plan to not use the arms and legs of the pattern, but I'd love to use the pattern to get the shape of the head and torso right at least to use up the few scraps of non-stretchy fantasy fabric I have....

...Which is also why it would be different from the pattern artists work. She tries to make the dolls look realistic...in as much detail as possible. I just want that basic shape, and I'll be using patterned fabric and different types of hair to add to the fantasy appeal.

So. If I purchase some one else's pattern to help use up the non-stretchy fabric I have to make them into the dolls I want, would I have to just keep them? Would I not be allowed to sell them?

I thought I read somewhere that as long as you don't sell the pattern you're ok....Was that just for clothing? How does that work? I'll also have made changes to the arms and legs...basically I'd just be using the body and the torso.

As soon as I'm done using up my nonstretchy fabric, I'd be switching to stretch fabric where I could use my own pattern to get it to look halfway decent, as well...so it would only be a few (five at the most) dolls. I mean, I'll keep them and use them to learn from if I can't sell them. But I'd like to sell them if I'm allowed.

Whether you can sell things made from someone else's pattern varies between pattern makers.
You need to check with the pattern maker if you're buying the rights to use the pattern for personal use only or for commercial use.

Ok, thanks for that info.
