My dh and I decided to forgo vit K shot, but wanted to do the oral dose. No one seems to know where to get it -- including hospital L&D, maternity & pediatrician's office. Any ideas on where to get and what is proper dosage?

Got mine from Amazon.com. Health food stores often sell it too. Comes in drops.
I never used it. If I can find it and it's still good, I could send you a bottle (I bought two with DS ,didn't bother using either in the end). But you'd probably get it quicker with Amazon. I can look in the AM to see if I can find it....

Twwly -- thanks for the speedy reply and the offer to send your vit K. If it can be bought at a health food store, there are a few close to us and we could probably pick some up tomorrow. Do you know the dosing?

To be honest I don't know the dosing.
Here's some quotes:
"Lower doses of vitamin K1 for premature infants: The results of two studies of vitamin K levels in premature infants suggest that the standard initial dose of vitamin K1 for full term infants (1.0 mg) may be too high for premature infants (20, 21). These findings have led some experts to suggest the use of an initial vitamin K1 dose of 0.3 mg/kg for infants with birth weights less than 1,000 g (2 lbs, 3 oz), and an initial dose of 0.5 mg would probably prevent hemorrhagic disease in newborns (20)."
That's from this link, which has lots of info:

I personally opted not to bother. I eat a lot of foods that are naturally high in Vit K and felt it was adequate. The article on Vit K here on Mothering is great too.

Thats right, you are in Tacoma, right? Call post partum at TG hospital... they gave it to us in the hospital and might have some info where you can it and the dosage.

Yes, we're in Tacoma. We ended up picking up some drops from Holistic Health today -- my dh's natropath's office. I gave her one dose today but, after doing more online reading, I don't know if I'll continue with the regimen.
Thanks for the suggestions & information!
