We don't have a dishwasher in this new place and I HATE washing dishes with a passion. We seem to end up with a mile high pile every day and standing more then 3-5 minutes kills my back due to an injury from a car accident 18 months ago. I also don't like stepping on broken glass at least once a week becasue my 2 year old manged to get a glass my 8 yr old left to close to the edge and the 2 yr old broke it trying to get it down. So I have decided to get rid of all the plates, glasses, cups ect. I am going to buy exactly 1 plastic plate, bowel and cup for each person that will be color coded for that person. My 8 yr old will be responsible for washing her own dishes (minus silverware) and if she wants a clean cup then she will just have to wash her cup rather then get another one from the cupboard (she insists on a new glass EVERY TIME she gets a drink).
Have I lost my mind? I remember my step mother doing this too when I was a kid and there were always at least 4 of us plus what ever kid was staying with us, she took it a step further and we each have color coded towels/wash cloths and I know there was something else but I'm drawing a blank. Suggestions? I'm tired of being the maid and right now I'm sick and on a lot of meds just to get out of bed and I haven't eaten since yesterday becasue I'm to tired to wash dishes to eat on. My 8 yr old had a heart attack this morning when she wanted me to wash dishes for her to eat (which is another issue, she expects me to cook a hot breakfast every morning and oatmeal is not acceptable. She wants bacon and eggs, toast, stuff that takes forever. You'd think the world was ending when I say "cereal". Its to hot to cook!) and I walked her to the sink and handed her the soap and a wash rag and pointed to a bowl and said you wash it! She can wash just fine, she just doesn't want to help out around the house but as a single mom with 2 kids I just can't do it anymore on my own and need her to start pulling her own weight a bit since she creates a large portion of the mess in this house. She thinks all she needs to do is make her bed in the morning and everything else magically appears for her clean and tidy.
So, have I lost my mind with the dishes or could this work?

: We had one once before we bought used and had to resell it when we moved. We got a new (used) one for free from a lady at Church who wasn't using hers.
