male infertility workup: advice wanted

i don't ovulate every month and my fertility doc who deals only with the female side of infertility (except for a sperm count and check for the other sperm movement stuff), has found reasons for infertility in me...and we are working on it..

my husband has trouble getting and keeping an erection so he went to a urologist...i asked him to have a full fertility workup while he was at it...i figured why not make sure...the urologist did a prostate exam and said he didn't find anything physically wrong...gave him a script...and sent him out the door...

well, our insurance doesn't cover most of it (any further testing) and we are strapped for cash as it is for now...

i am wondering if it's really worth it for him to have a scrotal ultrasound, semen analysis for testerone and the other stuff he already had checked..

i don't know much about the male side and am kind of thinking that since we found a reason in me and nothing in him so far, maybe it's not worth the money just yet...

can anyone shed any light on this for me...i am not even sure about how to go about researching it for myself..

i am really liking this place...

thanks....

Tandy,

sorry it wasn't clear to me, has your DH had a semen analysis? That only costs ~$100 and it's pretty important to get done.

your RE should be able to handle it for you, and they should want to know what the results are in case there is also a problem on the male factor side. We have male factor IF (DH has low counts) but they haven't recommended any additional testing for him. Actually the next step for us is a more thorough workup of me.

Unfortunately, just because they have identified one problem doesn't mean there aren't other problems...

so sorry that you are going through this. big hugs.

yes he had a semen analysis that was normal...

Tandy,

since the SA was normal, I think it's probably not necessary to have much more of a workup for him. And if the erection problem is being treated, then his end of things should be okay, right? I would save the money for treatments.

Good luck...

thanks for the advice...

i did a little research also and cancelled his appt...

he will see a psychiatrist for the erection problem which seems to be mostly psychological...

this is really frustrating.....

and sometimes i just think maybe it's not meant to be...

anyone else get that way?
