Hey everyone!
I don't post here much but I wanted to tell everyone about my frugal luncheon that I hosted this afternoon!
My godmother is visiting from England and she is leaving tomorrow so I wanted to have her and my parents over for lunch so she could see my house and have a visit.
I managed to make the *entire* lunch from food that I already had in my house!!! Woo hoo for me! I'm so excited that I didn't spend a penny on this meal (since I had already paid for the food and it would be eaten or wasted eventually).
It took some creative thinking but the motivation was that I didn't want to have to go to the grocery store alone with the two kids (trust me) and I was running out of time to get the house clean too.
What we had:
Lemonade (frozen Minute Maid that I bought 1/2 price when my fave grocery store went out of business)
Diet Gingerale (leftover from DS1's birthday party - only my mum drinks this)
Salad made with greens from our CSA farm share and other veggies that I had lurking in the fridge
Ranch dressing (happened to have this from a picnic on Father's Day - usually, prepared dressing expires here before we use much)
Garlic bread made from a loaf of bread I had in the freezer (we get handmade bread delivered weekly by a friend who makes it and one week we knew we weren't going to eat it all so we froze it)
I always have butter, cheese and garlic on hand
Lasagna that I had in the freezer (I made it a few months ago and it needed to be eaten anyway)
Banana bread that I had in the freezer (same deal as lasagna)
Tea
Turned out to be a pretty good meal I thought and with minimal effort on my part. I'm so tickled. The only bummer was that I forgot that my godmother doesn't like bananas but it was ok because she was full anyway and lasagna is her favourite.
The coolest part was that this was on a week that I didn't get to go to the grocery store other than a quick trip to the 24 hour place (mucho expensive) for some milk, orange juice and cheese.
Plus, I haven't driven the car since Sunday! I'm so proud of my frugalness! (is that a word
)
I'm excited to see how long I can stretch this for!
