problem......

Saw the midwife today for the non stress test. I am 2.5 weeks past due now. She was concerned about all the decels in the heartrate and brough up a few other concerns like the baby is huge, placenta going bad and baby not getting enough oxygen. She suggested induction. I really don't want to go that route and so she said she would let me try a few things at home first as long as I promised to get to a hospital if I had decreased movement or the heartrate gets too low (I have a doppler). I have to go back friday.

How can I get this baby out before friday? I don't want to be induced but I am really worried about my baby.

Here is the plan my MW gave me, which seemed to work:

Get black and blue cohosh homeopathics.

For two hours, alternate 2 pills back and forth every 15 minutes.

For my son, acupuncture worked.

Good Luck!

I would try acupuncture first. It often works and is very low-risk. Your mw or a local doula should be able to direct you to someone who has experience inducing with acupuncture. Homeopathics are no-risk also. Only you can decide where to go from there, but I would personally be comfortable giving castor oil a try before a medical induction, especially if I had a way to monitor the baby.

Do you know your bishop score?

Good luck to you s

homeopathic gelsemium worked best for me - my anxiety about labor seemed to be the only thing holding ds in!

Have you (she) tried sweeping your membranes?

I just wanted to give hugs. Maybe you could post on I'm Pregnant for more responses from mamas who have btdt.

I'e done this during labor (twice) when my cx's slowed and we needed them closer/stronger. It worked well, but was very intense. I don't know how well it works to induce labor, but it's worth a try!

How sure of dates are you?

Right now I am trying castor oil and fenugreek. I am about to take my second dose. Yuck.

I don't really have any money until dh gets paid tomorrow but I really hope things get going sometime tonight. Hopefully.

Please keep a VERY close eye on your baby - a non-reassuring NST is nothing to mess with, esp. 2.5 weeks past your EDD. Inductions are not the end of the world, and even though it's not what you imagined for your birth, I don't think *any* of us have had perfect birth experience every time, but at the end of the day moms make lots of sacrifices for their babies. Do what feels right for you.

I just did some reading on fenugreek... it seems like one of the "gentler" induction methods, which is good. One of the sites I was on even suggested it as a therapy for labor pain in general. Another site pointed out that it is a component of traditional Indian and Asian dishes, and may actually be the source of the wives tale that spicy foods cause you to go into labor.

I hope it works for you!! and ELV! Wishing you a very happy and healthy labor and delivery, SOON!

hugs to you mama. I think all the other mamas have covered the bases on what your options are for natural induction, aside from the pressure points, but the acupuncturist will work those same points with the needles. I am actually going to see the acupuncturist tonight(i'll be 42 weeks tomorrow) and doing a nst with the midwife today. I'll be sending you some labor vibes for sure!

I would probably go in this order:

accupuncture
herbs
membrane sweep - but, still not even totally sure I'd do that one.

That said, I would not consider ANY means of induction until I had reached 42 weeks.

Even the ACOG's official policy recommendation states inductions should NOT be considered until reaching 42 weeks, and that there is NO BENEFIT in inductions done at 41 weeks vs. 42 weeks.

This is only the case IF everything is reassuring with the baby.

Kris - how is everything? I've been thinking about you and your little one and hope everything is ok. FWIW if it were me I'd probably go for the induction at this point - sounds like the baby would be better off out than in.
