Coupons really do save you big $$$! I have saved $549.95 so far this month!

Rising fuel costs are hitting a lot of families hard, including mine. An MDC mama got me into couponing and holy crap I am saving big! I have saved all my receipts this month so far and I have bought $798.78 worth of stuff but I only spent $208.83. Thats a savings of $589.95! I'm also stocked with TP and diapers (Luvs and Huggies Supremes) for 3 months (would be 6-9 mo if dd wasn't allergic to Pampers. Razors and shaving cream for a year. Good name brand shampoo and conditioner (SunSilk) for 6-9 months, hair care products for a year at least. Laundry supplies are good for about 3 months too (Tide Free and Downy Free) about 6 months worth of Ziploc bags and containersj

Next month I'm going to work on restocking the pantry and deep freezer since we lost most of it in the move last month. I'm already planning out sales I know are coming and gathering the coupons I know we can use. We should be stocked for a year on condiments the first week of the month for dirt cheap since they usually have fantastic sales for 4th of July I never realized how .35 cents here and $2 there can add up Plus I have had some major scores calling up companies and just asking for coupons

So I'm going to share the links to the couponing sites I've found really helpful and hope they help someone else!

http://www.afullcup.com/upload/
http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/
http://forums.slickdeals.net/

My goal for July is to stretch $388 in food stamps to $800 in food and $50 in register rewards\rebates to use for other household needs

edited to add: oops! Found 2 more receipts that were on the fridge, between those 2 I saved $77.95 and spent $26.36 and I realized I can't find my receipt from the Mexican market where I got a shopping cart packed and overflowing with mostly fresh produce that looked like it came out of my own garden (ie, not that scrawny stuff that was harvested wayyyyy to early and it was actually ripe and smelled wonderful!) and I saved at least $200 and its lasted us 3 weeks so far (my fridge is awesome at storing produce) plus we got a ton at Trader Joes too and I don't think I used a single coupon at TJ's or the mexican market and I still saved a couple hundred between the 2! Next month I'm going to keep better track of savings

So, adding these 2 means I saved $667.90 and spent $235.19

glad you found SD...they are the BEST! i NEVER buy anything electronic, target, or drugstore without checking there first!

also couponmom.com is helpful for a full coupon LIST (in case you need to see what you missed or if you need to buy whole inserts).

Yippee! Sounds like you're doing great!!! Your area must have good food sales. Mine doesn't so much, so it takes a little more work, but I won't complain.

Great job!

And I thought I was doing well by saving $27 with coupons. Being the first time I ever really used coupons I'm still proud. LOL

Actually they don't but they have great sales on house hold needs type stuff and toiletries at Walgreens so you can get them for free or pennies I drive 45 min to the city once a month and hit the grocery stores like Winco, Ranch Market (huge mexican market with dirt cheap produce and meat) and Trader Joes.

TJ's does take coupons and a lot of times it a matter of just calling the companies and asking for coupons but we tend to get a lot of there TJ brand name stuff. I get things like Salad mix (Save about $1.50 bag and tastes better and lasts longer), GF cereal and oatmeal (save $2-3 box) and eggs if there not on sale at the mexican market. There $1.49dz at TJ's and over $3dz locally so we get like 10 doz to last the month) and rice milk. So I save a ton of money by going there rather then locally and even though its like $16 in gas for the day and it ends up being an 8 hour shopping spree I save a couple hundred $ so its worth it but you have to remember we have to eat gluten free which costs a lot more. So I'm comparing some prices to what the GF version would cost us else where (like cereal is $5-6 a box at the health food store). I'm going to see about making a 2nd trip down a month on the bus which would cost $4 round trip then the market has a shuttle service so I can get fresh produce again in the middle of the month becasue my fridge is so packed with produce the first 2 weeks I can't see what we have. Thinking about taking the bus in the other direction so I can go to Stater Brothers who sometimes has really good deals as well and that would only be $2 round trip. I need to call the bus company and find out how many bags I can bring with me on the bus.

As for giving more info, I don't have time to teach couponing to be honest, go check out those sites I mentioned above if you really want to learn!

I have to second that sentiment!

It is a total addiction, that's the only way I can accept the fact that I just today dug through the big recycling drop off bin when I took up the old newspapers. What the hell is that? I've always thought that dumpster diving was a bit too much, but I JUST DID IT!! Addiction, nothing less. LOL

But...I've spent the exact same amount in groceries for the past few months that I always have, but now I have about 4 months worth of food stockpiled and a years worth of some toiletries. Go me!

Pretty much all the ones we usually buy products for, scored 2 free any size bottles of Downy when I called and complained about the rash one of there variety's caused on my child. All of the major diaper companies send you a coupon for a free pack when you complain about there diapers, leaks, contact dermatitis, braking tabs ect. Cap broke off a bottle of Sunsilk Twist and it won't work anymore so they sent me a coupon for a free product (any). Got a free back up blood sugar monitor for my daughter when I called the company and asked for one (the CSR let me know in a round about way if I asked they would send one, I had just called to see if the test strips were compatible with another monitor). Called and complained to Good Seasons when the top of my new cruet kit was faulty and ended up with salad dressing every where. They sent a coupon for a new kit which also contains 2 more packs of dressing. Silk sent a $1 coupon. Can't remember the rest right now and my coupon binder is out in the car. Just remember calling and saying good things might get you a few cents off, complaining usually gets you a free products AND cents off

you don't even need to call. go to the mf website, contact us and then write a quick email. depends on if you like or don't like them or if you just mention your on a tight budget and need coupons. i've gotten plenty of coupons this way. SUPPOSEDLY (and in theory) anytime you like or dislike a product or SERVICE you should send in a comment and see what they send or say. the first time is time consumeing but if you're diligent and do it once a month or every 2 months you should be an old pro asap.

Thank you so much for posting this!! I have spent the afternoon printing off coupons and preparing for some good deals.

On one of the boards they posted about Target having Dyson vacuums on clearance for $199. I called mine and they had one left. I got there fast and snagged it. I was so excited because dh was just saying that we needed to think about getting a new one soon and our 5 year warranty was up. This was the DCO7 that retails for $399 so it was a great deal.

At the end of the month, their new ad starts before their old one expires, so you can use the ads/coupons from both together.

Yep

Example from what I got (IVC =Walgreen's Instant Value in store coupon)

2 Disposable Bic Soleil Razor packs (on sale for $4.99 had $4 manufacturer coupons so I got them for .99 cents a pack, not bad for 1-2 worth of razors)
3 35 ct Maalox (-$2 June IVC, -$2 July IVC -$2 manufacturer coupon which created $1.50 overage on each bottle) = FREE with $4.50 overage
4 12oz Maalox Liquid (-$2 June IVC, -$2 July IVC -$2 manufacturer coupon) = FREE with .01 overage
3 11oz bags M&Ms (-$1 June IVC, -$1 July IVC, on sale 2/$6) =$3

Now the IVC coupons automatically X for the amount of items you buy so if I buy 5 of something and I have a $1 IVC it multiples to $5 not just $1. Got it?

Total Out Of Pocket $3.44 before taxes

Then I did the Dixie Ultra plates deal that are buy 1 get 1 free with the in ad coupon so you pay $3.79 plus they come with a free roll of Brawny paper towels but my store wa out so they subbed the Bounty Big Rolls. Here's the fun part, after you pay the register kicks out a $3 off your next dixie purchase. So you get 2 more plus the towels (make sure the plates have the coupon for the towels on them) for only .79 cents! again it kicks out the $3 coupon and its a matter of lather, rinse, repeat until your outta money or the store is out of plates More detailed info can be found here

I'm betting some people are wondering how someone who professes to be broke is paying for this This is the cool thing about WAG, they give these things called Register Rewards and Rebates that go on gift cards when you buy certain items and if its something you use anyway

For example I think its next week Shout laundry stain remover goes on sale 2/$5, well I have 2 $1 off coupons which brings the price down to 2/$3, then there is a rebate available that will go on my gift card at the end of the month for another $2. In the end I will end up with 2 bottles of Shout for $1 and the $2 rebate will go on the gift card which will be used to pay for more items that I need.

Another trick that allows you to use food stamps to get non-food item. I think its this week week (I can see the ads online 2-3 weeks in advance) is buying food items that trigger register rewards which can be used like cash in the store. For example this week if you buy $15 in participating products (Ragu, Bertolli, Bryers Ice cream, Lipton Tea bags, Skippy, and hellmans mayo) all of which are on sale at decent prices and get a $5 register reward. So you buy food products you already use then use the $5 RR to get non food items you need like TP, tooth paste, what ever

WTG!!

I sent poor DH to Kroger today with a list and coupons ....

He comes back and says the coupons were expired........ what the heck??? I looked at the dates, ant they were in JULY!!!! Poor thing is sleep deprived, I guess.

Why don't men get obsessed with coupons like we do????
My first couponing trip!
3 Tres Semme conditioner $3.33 (I know this is not a greta deal but we were completely out of conditioner and this is the cheapest I have seen this stuff)

1 Aussie Shampoo $2.99

1 Colgate advanced $2.99

2 CVS brand pull-ups jumbo pack clearance $3.50 each (normally $13.99)

1 Listerine Smart Rinse $3.49

2 CVS bandages $1.99

$30.44

Coupons Used
Colgate $1
Listerine $1.50
Aussie $1.00
ECB $3.00

$24.44

Then I got $11.50 ECBs for Aussie, Colgate, Bandages, Listerine and $3 off next purchase

AND>>>> They were out of quite a few things I wanted to take advantage off for ECBs so I have rainchecks for:
(2) Listerine Smart Rinse FREE
(2) Oral B twin pack FREE
(5) Colgate Freshmax toothpaste .99

So that is another $21 in free stuff and $12.45 discount on the toothpaste (I have coupons to add to that too though so it will probably be free)!!!!

Then I went to Kroger and "bought" 6 Buddies bar soaps and 2 Glade plug-ins for all of .09!!!

One more thing. When I went to get water this morning for a track meet I saw Colgate 360 toothbrushes marked $3.99 with $3.99 ECB so I bought the limit of 5. The rang up $4.49 each and I was not about to pay that for a toothbrush so the guy went back to check and came up to tell me that it was in a display box that actually expired (I missed that part) but since it was still there he would give them to me!! Anoither $23.80 saved and 5 free toothbrushes!!

Thanks for starting this thread Satori. Because of you, I am saving money and getting some great staples for FREE.
