ds in pain- please help

My 5.5 month old is in a lot of stomach pain. I took him to the Dr. yesterday who said his tummy sounded beastly & that's probably why he isn't sleeping, he's thrashing when he's nursing, won't stop crying, etc. Could forceful letdown cause this much of an issue? My oldest ds has colitis, celiac disease, acid reflux, etc. She's sending him to the pediatric GI because w/ the history of my other son, she doesn't want to risk it. But, I hadn't mentioned to her about my forceful let down. COULD it cause him to be in this much pain, cause his poops to be mucousy, cause his spitting up, etc. I know it could cause the latter two but at 5 months, would he be in this much pain? TIA

Yes, it can. I have the same problem with my kids. What I do is nurse them a bit, let letdown happen and pop them off for the hardest part of letdown. I let it go into a rag or burp cloth. Then when its calmed down, I put them back on.

I'm not sure if forceful letdown would make his poo mucousy unless he had a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance. You could try pumping off the foremilk and then latching him on, but given his brother's history, I'd be hurrying to the GI.

Are you sure he doesn't have reflux, too? That's how my dd behaved, and reflux was a huge component. Food sensitivities, too.
