I'm glad she stood up for herself! Can you believe he threatened to take her child? It's interesting that they tried to play it off as concern for her and the baby. Since inmates would be walking down the hall under escort. Were they trying to say they don't have proper control of the inmates in custody?

I was coming to post about this

I found this article:

http://www.wbir.com/news/local/story...8&provider=rss

And it irked me! See the part that says:

"According to Tennessee law enacted in 2006, "a mother has a right to breastfeed her child who is 12 months of age or younger in any location, public or private, where the mother and child are otherwise authorized to be present."

12 months or younger?????? So I can't breastfeed my 13 month old??? Grrrr....

While it makes my blood boil for that poor mama, I'm glad it got some media attention. She came across as totally reasonable and normal. I can't imagine anyone feeling much sympathy for the court officer.

That just seems so HOSTILE to me. And so mentally screwed-up. I mean, to make such a threat, he must really think that mom is an evil menace to society and an abusive mother...

...Because she was feeding her child when he was hungry, and was doing it lawfully too, in the best possible way!

WTF? :

Dh showed this to me. It's ridiculous!

I, too, noticed the "12 months and under" thing.

If he was so concerned about the mother, he would not have been making threats about CPS taking her child away and having her arrested! Sheesh! :

12 months or younger. So much for children's rights. :

I remmber the 12 months or younger thing when it came into play. There was no protection at all over BF in TN before that. It still irks me, because I have family in TN and will probably find myself NIP with a child over a year there at some point in time. Honestly if I thought I could pull it off I'd just tell them my child was under 12 months. I mean, what are they gonna do, ask to see some ID?

Could be worse - there is a law in the works in the UK at the moment that states that you can only breastfeed a baby under 6 months in public. :

I am just floored!!! It drives me crazy that it is ok in this society to have half exposed women paraded on public billboards but we can't bf our babies in public. Heck a Victoria's secret commercial on daytime tv leaves less to the imagination than a nursing baby/child

I feel sick to my stomach. Is this really the world we live in?! dh and I always talk about how people speak up for the most inappropriate reasons. The other day we were at the zoo. This man was screaming at his little daughter and intimidating her. He was holding her chin in his hand and was so close to her face that he was spitting on her as he yelled. It was disgusting to watch she looked to be about 5 years old. DH went over to him and asked him not to speak to his daughter that way. Anyway, my point is that everyone looked at dh like, "It's not your business" like we were the ones that were crazy to think a child should be treated with respect! And then someone threatens to take a child away for being breastfed? Wow, there needs to be a lot of changes in this world.
