My confession

Thread Starter
I HATE cloth diapering. We have prefolds, fitteds and a few AIO's. I hate them all. I hate handling the pee soaked diapers, I hate having to change him 30 thousand times a day, I hate hate hate the fact they leak all the freaking time, I hate the fact his bum is too big for his sleepers and his legs look akward all the time.

Billy is wearing a sposie right now and I am much happier. I feel guilty though....

Im sorry you are having so much trouble, maybe you could try some pocket diapers and if those work for you trade someone for them. I loved pocket diapers with DD and had no leaks( you can use your pre-folds to stuff them also.

Oh crap, don't feel guilty! I've cloth diapered my last two, but with my oldest I stopped because it was just to much of a pain in the ass with him. Leaks all the time and they didn't fit him......... If it was that difficult this time, I'd switch

Just go get some Seventh Gen or Tushies disposables, so you can at least keep some of the chemicals off him.

I agree - no guilt! The fact that it even occurred to you to do something else puts you way ahead of most folks. My husband hates cloth diapers once the baby is no longer exclusively breastfed. I just know it will be a battle that we fight in about 6 months when we start solids...

I would be annoyed if our diapers didn't fit well or leaked too. Do what works for you. We use sposies for our 2-year-old right now (he's at daycare, so we have to) and even though we'll switch back to cloth after this week (tomorrow's his last day) we'll continue to use sposies at night. The cloth just isnt' enough for him.

It can be more work that's for sure! I think it's good you've been trying, perhaps you could check out the G diaper part cloth/sposie into toilet
post #6 of 17
Definitely no guilt!! But, the problems you are having are problems related to your diapers, not to cloth diapers in general. You just need a better system! Leaks and having to change baby constantly are not okay!!

I highly recommend fuzzi-bunz or bumgenius. It doesn't get any easier than these. Worth EVERY EXPENSIVE PENNY!!!
Yes! Bum Genius solved most of our cloth diapering woes, and I wish we had just started with a bunch of them. If I had actually hung them to dry, they would still be completely awesome.

I actually like the simplicity of Fuzzi Bunz more, but the multiple sizes make them way more of an investment.

my mom always said, "choose your battles". Are you committed enough to CD to find a system that works? If so, keep trying different options and combinations. If not, then switch to EC or disposables and don't beat yourself up about it. Concentrate on the things that are even more important to you in regards to your baby, and do a good job with those things. You have enough emotions running around your body, guilt doesn't need to be one of them!

let me start off by saying I think Cloth diapering is a great idea..... for someone else. LOL

I did it with my second.... and pretty much hated every second of it also(for a number of reasons). Even with an assortment of things(including happy heineys and fuzzi bunz). Anyhow... I somewhat considered it this time around, but we have no hot water going to our washing machine- only cold and I refuse to cloth diaper without hot water access..... I guess that might just be an excuse though LOL

anyhow.... maybe you'll find something else that works for you if you want to cloth diaper?

Have you thought about elimination communication? My friends had a 2 month old and on average is washing 7 dipers a week! Not too shaby!
not in your ddc, but i just wanted to add...

i decided to go with the bumgenius pocket diapers for ease of use and even though they are expensive- i think it's working out. we recently did switch to 7th gen sposies at night because our ds, whom we affectionately refer to as "pee machine" and sometimes "poo machine" was having some leaks and it just wasn't worth the hassle

but, i agree, don't feel bad, just do whatever works for you and do the best you can.

I guess it's different for everybody and that's okay I diapered 2 kids in pfs and proraps almost exclusively w/no probs but that doesn't work for some. I do fitteds b/c they're cute and I like soakers but, actually, pfs and proraps work just as well.

I don't mind changing out wet pfs and whatnot but I DON'T like fishing out the stuffing of a pocket dipe. They can be super trim, which I appreciate, but that wet stuffer - yuck!

The only thing I can suggest is to fold your pf short ways (instead of the long ways and having to fold it over). This eliminates the fold and makes it trimmer on a nb. Then place it in a cover. I really like proraps for the ease, cheapness, and abuse they will take. If you're pinning/snappying and getting fancy w/folding - you might be over doing it. I've never wasted my time with that unless we were going coverless to clear up a rash. It's an art but fancy folds just don't contain bm poops.

HTH

Right now I have nothing that FITS this wee girl (born at 9lbs and not fitting my infant fitted diapers?? What the heck?? )... but I dislike that my DISPOSABLES leak! Poo everywhere! It's the same reason we clothed the younger 2 asap. and eventually went to cloth with our first... poo coming out is not ok - no matter what type of diaper you're using!

Finding something that works would be great - but only if YOU want to. If you want to re-visit this topic when your brain is not pp, do so... but don't feel guilty if for now you say, "nah, not worth it".

My confession is that I've never sat on my butt THIS MUCH. Never. My butt is getting tired...

We love our pocket diapers. They're still cheaper than sposies in the long run, especially because we EC.

DS no longer had poopy diapers by 4 months. Reaaaallllly helped with our enthusiasm for CDing. (And EC. He's 20 months now and I cannot imagine what cleaning up his craps would be like if they weren't always in the toilet).

But sposies always leaked for us. My cloth system really doesn't leak. I don't like bulk though, so my DD is still in preemie prefolds and covers during the day.
We had leaking problems with DS at first, but I was determined to not spend money on disposables, since all of the CD's we had were given to us. Prefolds and Proraps/Bummis covers. Turned out we just weren't putting them on 'well enough'. The pf was sticking out of the cover either in the front, in the back or out one of the legs. It doesn't take much either, if it's touching any clothing it will wick right out.

If that doesn't sound like your issues, maybe your diapers need stripping? We are using those same diapers with our DD now and haven't had any leaking problems.

Aww its ok! Even though Ive mastered (finally) the art of cloth diapering a newborn (and a peanut at that! 5lbs, 6oz at birth!) I use sposies at night and when we're out in public. I feel guilty about that, but its just easier right now. Do what works!
