I'm 40 weeks and 3 days so I can completely imagine how excited you are! (what I would give for my water to break right now!)

Good luck! I wish you a fast and painless delivery!

Sorry to everyone for dropping off the face of the earth, but I got a suspension right as I went into labor! A mod was kind enough to let me on today, so that I could give you all an update and make the updates to the Birth stats sticky thread at the top of our DDC.

Anyway, my labor was very smooth and fast - only 5 1/2 hours. After my water broke in my previous two pg's, I immediately started hard active labor, but that didn't happen this time. I had regular contractions at 5 minutes apart for an hour, but they were so mild, I thought this could end up taking 12 hours!

I called my MW right away and she said to get some rest and call her later. I then took a big poop (sorry TMI!) and everything spaced out to 20 minutes apart for an hour, which really bugged me. Dh and I laid down to get some rest. After about 45 minutes, things picked back up to 10 minutes apart for an hour and they got a little more intense. I calle dMW again and said she better come, since it would take her 45 minutes to get here. I finally had to get up to deal with the contractions. Within a few minutes of getting upright, I went to contractions every 2 minutes, and they were hard and long - 90 seconds! I started feeling nauseous and was trying NOT to throw up. I told dh to call her back and tell her to HURRY!

I had the 2 minutes apart for 20 minutes, and right about the time I thought she wasn't going to make it, I heard her hand on the front door knob - thank God! I was already a little pushy and couldn't wait any longer to get into the pool. I got in and what relief! Everything slowed for about 4-5 minutes. I was afraid to give in to the push because I wasn't sure where I was at dilation-wise, so I let her check me. Big mistake! I have never had an internal exam in a pg or a labor. Holy cow - it hurt!!

She said I had a tiny bit of anterior lip, but on the next contraction two minutes later I felt the burn. I had a ring of fire very briefly in my last birth (an over ten pound baby), but this ring of fire was much more intense and lasted FOREVER. For like TWO MINUTES! All I could do was be the pain. I know that sounds weird but it was very purgatorial, like all I was was pain and fire.

Anyway, I was kneeling in the pool with my arms over the side and I hear my dh say, "Here comes the head!" She came out underwater and then her body came out on the next contraction and I pushed mightily with it for the first time. I felt her move and kick free of my body as she came out. The MW reached into the pool and fished her out. It was such a relief!

I was so happy and she was just beuatiful with tons of dark hair! I held her on my chest in water for awhile. Dh got to cut the cord when it was done, and they took her to wrap her up and came back to help me out of the pool. Placenta came when I had a contraction as I stood upright out of the pool.

It was so smooth and uneventful, I was utterly thrilled. My kids slept throught the whole thing too - thank God!

Claudia Frances was born at 01:33 AM on Friday June 27th and she weighed 9 lbs. even. She latched on at her first try and knew just what to do.

This recovery has been my best of all my births too. I feel much better at 12 days post partum than I did in my others.

God is good!

Here's a photo of her:

ETA: That birth weight predictor that we did was quite off for me. It said she would be 8.0 lbs. and she weighed nine pounds!
