The Gift of Fear

Protecting the Gift

Both by Gavin deBecker.

The books teach how to trust that 'gut hunch' and to listen to it and do what it's signalling you to do, know and say.

Anyone got any others?

would you recommend either of these for a guy in a couples baby shower? We have the requisite baby gifts, but I always like to get something for the Dad-to-be, too, especially since at the couples showers I've been to, they are pretty bored and/or overwhelmed. I have gotten the book Be Prepared in the past, it's funny and light, but I am wondering if either of these would be good.

I would stick with funny and light for shower gifts. I like Gavin de Becker's work, and find it useful, but I would find it a sort of ambiguous message as a shower gift.

If still pregnant, The Birth Partner is a good read for partners to learn how to be supportive during birth. For partners who want to learn about the reasons for non-medicalized birth, The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth is full of facts and data, which I think makes it very typical guy oriented.

I'm drawing a blank at general babycare or parenting books that are especially good for dads. I may have to revisit this later.

This looked pretty good when I glanced through it.

I like Fatherwise also.
