can I start a late name thread too?

Heh, I am so nitpicky about her middle name! I keep saying we "have it" and then changing my mind!
But I was thinking last night, I'm wondering if I should name her after some kind of goddess of fire, given that she is going to be born into one of the worst seasons of wildfires in northern california.....
Do you think thats bad, or negative? I feel like its a protection of some sort to give her a name associated with that. But I could also see how it might seem negative to give her a name because of something that is causing so much destruction.....Maybe I should pick something associated with wildlife/forests instead?

And on a less deep thought level, I can't seem to find a name associated with fire that goes well with Liberty.
Right now the other two middle name choices (before I had this thought about fire) are Anne or Apple, neither really MEAN a lot to me, except that DD1 said she wanted to name the baby Apple a few months ago, but now shes moved on to calling her "sissy" anyways

FTR, our last name is McGowen....

Anyone got any ideas to throw at me?

Hmmm.... I'm with you, I'm of two minds re: a fire name. On the one hand, I *adore* names that reference elementals... all of our girls' names have something to do with water.

But, w/regards to using a fire name b/c of the forest fires... I don't know. The devastation and pain that they have already caused.... I'm not sure I would want to associate that with my child. Although, I do see the protection aspect as well..........

So, yeah, NO help at all. Totally torn. If the name brings to mind the element and a sense of security, then yes. If it brings to memory the actual forest fires, then no.

FWIW, we're letting dd2 help name the babe if it's a girl... we had chosen the name Sylvia Evangeline for a girl, but dd2 has been insisting that the babe is a boy and his name is Caroline. We figured we might use Caroline instead of Evangeline and that we'd make sure that she was right either way!

hmmm, yeah. Maybe I'll stick with Apple, since DD1 picked it. DH keeps saying it remind him of NYC to name her Liberty Apple though

The only fire name I feel drawn to is Brigid, who is also said to be a goddess of childbirth and midwifery, which is very cool, but I'm just not sure!
I feel so settled on Liberty as her first name, but nothing seems to sit right with me as her middle name. Everytime I tell someone that they say "well she doesn't NEED a middle name", but that doesn't sit well with me either! She has a middle name, I just can't figure out what it is! (if that makes sense....)

The fire name thing wouldn't feel right to me either, but you have to decide that for yourself.... What about Pele? She is kindof fireish.

I like the idea of something healing/earth/forest centered better. I think Liberty Gaia would be awesome. Or even going with a water name as that is what would have balanced the fire....

Hard to decide as there are so many directions to go. I love names though. If you decide which association you want for sure, I will give it another go.

I have always been drawn to a water name for her (and water things in general which is weird for me, like I keep buying clothes that have fish or ocean themes on them, or mermaid things, normally I'm not a "theme" type of person), but can't find one DH likes. Hes driving me nuts with not liking names! I really REALLY like the name Oceania but he hates it. Throw some water names at me Neomia, if you have time

I also really liked Gaia, and DH said no to that as well. Same with Luna. I should kick him for being so difficult

How about this name?

Oh Luna is cute.
I like interesting names too - we had a heck of a time this time ourselves!!

What about Phoenix? It's 'from the ashes'...

Um, did you notice mama moose's name? :

Although, no reason she can't name the baby after herself!

I like Anne and Apple. Both are very pretty.

Oh, I adore Gaia!! Silly Dhs......

I have alot of water names, because that is what we originally wanted to go for. BUT, I have to warn you I am crazy about the way names sound, so many I wouldn't use. Like with Liberty, I wouldn't want another name that ended in y or the y sound. So here are some picks from me.

Kallan
Brooke
Aqua
Pearl
Talise
Cordelia
Nerita
Kaia
Geneva
Darya
Vanora

Great list here:

my DH is the pickiest man on earth! :
He doesn't like any of the names I suggested! The only one I got "maybe" to was River. Which I like, but I'm still not sure thats her name....Liberty River McGowen.....

Eithne (enya) means 'fire'. It's a Gaelic name. Or you could use Blaise/Blaze.

I just googled:

what do you all think about Liberty Ember McGowen? I was going to stray away from fire names, but then I saw that and it spoke to me. I'm not sure though.
So, on my list would be
Liberty Ember
Liberty River
Liberty Apple

In that order, I think. I wish I could just make up my mind! Seriously, with August, she had a name before the 20 week u/s, Liberty has been so hard to name and I can't figure out why! Something mysterious about this little girl
