Natural remedies for foot issues?

Hi There,

My DH has recurring foot issues where the skin around his toes gets itchy and red and peels off, sometimes to the point of splitting/getting raw between his toes. Also, his toenails get very dry, and crackly/flaky.

In the past he has purchased "tinactin" spray (I think that is what it is called), and it resolves the skin issues for a while, but it tends to come back. I am not really happy with him using toxic products (and he is open to other options).

Does anyone have a natural remedy suggestion?

Tea Tree Oil.

Did we marry the same man?

I have no idea what this foot thing is called- I think it's more then just athlete's foot.

What helps DH is foot soaks with black tea, epsom salts, and a little TTO. He has to do this at least once a week.

One thing I was thinking of is, DH doing a complete detox.

Peeing on your feet changes the acidity and can help to clear up foot fungus.

Ooohh, I'm going to suggest this to EnviroDaddy who has been battling fungus for about a year now! I can't wait to see the look on his face!

He read up on natural ways to cure fungus and thinks that the reason they didn't work for him is that it was too far advanced by the time he bothered to do anything, so that he can kill off what's on the surface but it's still active at the roots of the toenails under the skin. He may have to see a podiatrist. But the good news is, when he shared his fungus with me : his method worked for me:

1. Get in the bathtub with a new emery board. Use the rough side to file off all infected toenails. Keep filing until you can't see any more fungus. Use the smooth side to file off all infected skin that will peel easily (don't draw blood). Throw away the emery board. Wash feet thoroughly with soap, and rinse all fungus particles down the drain.

2. Soak feet in drugstore-strength hydrogen peroxide for 20 minutes. Pat dry.

3. Apply full-strength tea tree oil with a cotton swab to all affected areas and about 1/4" past there. Let air-dry.

4. Be careful of toes while nails are recovering from having been filed down so thin. Thoroughly wash and dry feet at least once a day, change socks whenever they get sweaty, and repeat #3 every other day for a couple of weeks.
